By the time the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Rangoon was formed in 1930, there were twenty two Arya Samajs in Burma. The separation of Burma from India in 1937 was a setback for the Arya Samaj and the onset of the Second World War completely disrupted its activities. On 14 April 1952, the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Rangoon was revived by Pandit Ganga Prasad Upadhyaya who was visiting Burma from India. Other Arya Samaj preachers came to Burma and the Arya Samaj was reinvigorated. In 1959 the Satyarth Prakash Light of Truth was translated in Burmese language Burmese together with other Arya Samaj literature. Annual conference started to be held in different centres where Arya Samajs were based. During the Second World War the activities of the Arya Samaj was interrupted by the Japanese occupation. The movement s present building at Syed Alwi Road was opened in 1963 by Mollamal Sachdev, whose family gave generously to the building fund. The building is used as a community hall for weddings and other traditional celebrations such as Deepavali and Holi . The Arya Samaj has started teaching Hindi at its premises through the Dayanand Anglo Vedic Schools System D.A.V. Hindi School. The Arya Samaj also has a Vedic library. In 1975, the membership of the Arya Samaj in Singapore stood at approximately 350. A Veda Mandir temple was built in 1937 and many Arya Samaji preachers visited the Mandir in subsequent years. In 1962, relations between India and Portugal was strained due to India s annexation of Goa , a Portuguese territory on the sub continent. Indians in overseas Portuguese territories were victimised and most had to leave these colonies. Thus the work of Arya Samj in Mozambique came to an end. Arya Samaj doctrine rejected the idea of caste and the exclusive role of brahmin s as religious leaders. The movement preaches monotheism and opposition to the use of images in worship as well as many traditional Hindu rituals. Caste distinctions are all but forgotten among Guyanese Hindus Establishment In 1921 the first Arya Samaj was formed and the movement continued to gain impetus as more people started to appreciate the Vedic teachings. The arrival of a second Vedic missionary, Pandit Mehta Jaimini in 1929 led to centralised control and organisation of the Arya Samaj. Other missionaries arrived in 1935, and in 1936 Pandit Bhaskaranand arrived and remained in Guyana for ten years organising the various Samajs. The American Aryan League, the parent body for all the Arya Samajs in the country, was established in 1937 and registered under the friendly societies ordinance in 1938. A building to house the headquarters of the League was also established. Pandit Usharbudh Arya arrived in 1955 and one of his greatest contributions was the establishment of the Arya Vir Dal directed at the youth. Consolidation The Arya Samaj in Guyana has 40,000 members, with thirty five Arya Samajs affiliated to the American Aryan League. Regular prayer meeting are held at the various meeting halls.
