Unreferenced date June 2010 The St. Ives Times and Echo is an Independent business independent , weekly local newspaper based in StIves, Cornwall United Kingdom. Published every Friday, its circulation covers the St. Ives Bay Area and is intensive in the old Borough area of StIves which encompasses Carbis Bay Halsetown and Lelant TR26 . In Hayle TR27 the newspaper is published under its own banner of The Hayle Times with identical content. Very local indeed, however, it does cover some national and occasionally international news items, particularly art related, which have local interest or appeal. It s current proprietor and editor is Mr Toni Carver. The modern Times & Echo is the result of a number of incorporations culminating with the amagamation of The Western Echo founded in 1899 and The St. Ives Times founded in 1910 amalgamated in 1957. The StIves Printing and Publishing Company that owns the newspaper also prints the newspaper itself, as well as printing and publishing and books on art and the environment. The StIves Times and Echo is unusual and unique in published local newspapers for several reasons. It prints on recycled sc mechanical paper since the 1960s , instead of the more normal newsprint , as well as printing photographs black & white only to a higher resolution than is normal for a newspaper. It has advertisements on its front page the Cornish & Devon Post also does this , and it prints in ISO SRA 3 page format bigger than tabloid newspaper format tabloid but smaller than broadsheet . Multiple issues orphan February 2009 refimprove February 2009 notability Biographies date March 2009 Ives I de Belesme was a powerful Norman Baron, controlling the lands and tower of Bell me Belesme , Normandy at the end of the 10th Century. In documents he goes by various names Ives de Creil, Ives de Belesme, Evas, etc. Apparently, his original name was Ives de Creil, but because of his land holdings he became known as Belesme. He was described as a Wisdom wise man . He is also apparently the brother or brother in law to Sigenfroi, the Bishop of Mans. His parentage is in dispute. On the Internet one finds several parents, and none of them have been confirmed. Therefore it is generally considered that the House of Belesme stems from him. In 942 his counsel saved the life of Richard I, Duke of Normandy Richard, Duke of Normandy , who was imprisoned by King Louis IV of France Louis d Outremer at Laon. His death date is unknown, though various documents and events place it between 994 and 1005 AD. Ives apparently gave land to a man named Gauzlin, the abbot of Fleury, who did not rise to that position until 1005. Belesme also founded the chapel l Abbayette on 12 Oct 997 according to documentation. A man named William of Jumi ges Guillaume de Jumieges wrote about Ives, referring to his full name as Yovon pere de Guillaume de Belesme. He married a woman named Godchilda or a variation of that name and had five known children Guillaume de Belleme a.k.a. C&SIB RDT The Cambridge & St. Ives Branch as it is named on New Popular Edition s Ordnance Survey maps was a railway built by the Wisbech, StIves & Cambridge Junction Railway in the late 1840s. The railway ran from Cambridge in the south, through Fenland countryside to the market town of St. Ives, Cambridgeshire St. Ives more specifically, the line ran from Chesterton Junction , where it met the present day Fen Line north of the River Cam . Passenger services along the line managed to survive the Beeching Axe only to last until 1970 the railway continued to be used for freight until the 1990s. The railway now forms the alignment of the northern section of the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway a bus rapid transit scheme.
