BLP sources date August 2009 Tony Asher born May 2 , 1938 in London is an United States American lyricist who co wrote eight songs on The Beach Boys 1966 album Pet Sounds in conjunction with front man Brian Wilson , including such classic songs as God Only Knows and Wouldn t It Be Nice . Asher, who formally only helped Wilson s ideas come into words, still managed to have some influence on the album. In Asher s own words, The general tenor of the lyrics was always Brian s , and the actual choice of words was usually mine. I was really just his interpreter. Looking for a clean break from the by then famous Beach Boys sound associated with surfing and cars and not wanting to collaborate with any of the songwriters with whom he had previously worked, Wilson called Asher&mdash an advertising copywriter whom he barely knew&mdash in early January 1966 and within ten days they had started to write what would eventually become Pet Sounds , one of the Beach Boys most influential albums. Asher s original draft lyrics for Good Vibrations , replaced by Wilson and Mike Love on the hit single version, were eventually re recorded for the version released on Brian Wilson Presents Smile Brian Wilson album Smile . After Pet Sounds , he collaborated with Roger Nichols songwriter . Asher has one son, Evan, and lives with his wife Sheryl in Los Angeles. He studied in his native town under Gerdt Hardorf and Leo Lehmann , and in 1821 went for farther instruction to Dresden , and thence to D sseldorf , where he entered the atelier of Peter von Cornelius Cornelius there he made the acquaintance of Wilhelm von Kaulbach Kaulbach , with whom he continued a friendship through life. In 1825 he accompanied his master to Munich , and was there employed by him on the frescoes of the Glyptothek . He is associated with the D sseldorf school of painting . In 1827 he returned to Hamburg he then, in 1832, went through Berlin to Italy, and remained there three years. On his return to Germany, with the exception of a second visit to Italy in 1839, in company with his friend Kaulbach, he resided at Munich and at Hamburg, where he died in 1878. Asher s works, which consist of historical pictures, genre paintings, and portraits, are found for the most part in Hamburg both in public buildings and private collections. According to his autobiography, he was born in Beaulieu sur Dordogne in France , where his father, a Polish electrical engineer, had found work laying down power lines. Peres was given the name Aristide at birth, since the name his parents wanted to choose, Asher , the name of his maternal grandfather, was not on a list of permissible names. When Peres went to live in Israel, he changed his first name to Asher and his family name from Pressman to Peres . Peres obtained his doctorate Ph.D. in 1959 at Technion Israel Institute of Technology under Nathan Rosen . Peres spent most of his academic career at Technion, where in 1988 he was appointed distinguished professor of physics. Peres is well known for his work relating quantum mechanics and information theory , an approach which is extensively used in his textbook referenced below. Among other things, he helped to develop the Peres Horodecki criterion for quantum entanglement as well as the concept of quantum teleportation . He died in Haifa, Israel .
