IEEE ref It is common in the field of human computer interaction to think of the human and computer as separate entities. The term Human Computer Interaction HCI emphasizes this separateness by treating the human and computer as different entities that interact. However, HI theory thinks of the wearer and the computer with its associated input and output facilities not as separate entities, but regards the computer as a second brain and its sensory modalities as additional senses, in which synthetic synesthesia merges with the wearer s senses. When a wearable computer functions in a successful embodiment of HI, the computer uses the human s mind and body as one of its peripherals, just as the human uses the computer as a peripheral. File The Cardsharps.jpg thumb left alt Atheism and Irreligion Sidebar Humanistic naturalism is the branch of philosophical naturalism wherein human beings are best able to control and understand the world through use of the scientific method . Concepts of spirituality, intuition, and metaphysics are not pursued because they are unfalsifiable, and therefore can never progress beyond personal opinion. A boundary is not drawn between nature and what lies beyond nature everything is regarded as a result of explainable processes within nature, with nothing lying outside of it. ref Living Issues in Philosophy 4th ed. New York American Book Co., 1963 215 221. ref The belief is that all living things are intricate extensions of nature, and therefore deserves some degree of mutual respect from human beings. Naturalists accept the need for adaption to current change, however it may be, and also that life must feed upon life for survival. But they recognize as well, the necessity for a fair exchange of resources between all species. Industry and technology are sometimes regarded as enemies to naturalism but it is not always the case. For the ones who do believe that, the thought is that the majority of human history, societies were largely agricultural and hunter gatherer and lived in relative harmony and balance with nature. But with the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, naturalists see this balance as being increasingly threatened. References references Titus, Harold H. Living Issues in Philosophy 4th ed. Multiple issues orphan February 2009 notability February 2008 refimprove February 2008 Humanistic Robotics is a company that develops land mine clearing technology. It is developing the SCAMP Specialized Compact Automated Manual deminer replacement Platform. This technology uses remote robotics as a platform for surveying, clearing and checking the quality of clearance in minefield s, while solving a number of issues not addressed by landmine clearing technologies. History The company was started in 2005 by two students Samuel Reeves, an undergraduate business student at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton and Joshua Koplin, a graduate design student at the Pratt Institute . After receiving a grant from a foundation in Geneva, the two partners conducted research in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Thailand and Canada to better understand the landmine clearing technologies in use. Upon their return, they looked for an alternative solution to landmine clearance. Issues that were identified in current landmine clearing machines were high cost reducing the volume of machines that can be financed , weight transportation costs and damage caused to rural infrastructure , and ease of use. After creating a design that purportedly accounted for all of these problems, they decided to create Humanistic Robotics Inc. Its land mine clearing robot is approaching the final test phase, and the company will be looking to produce their new robot en masse within the next few years. Board The board is composed of Michael Douglas, Ian McMillan, Iqbal Quadir, Jonathan Granoff and Steve Goodman. ref http www.wharton.upenn.edu what is business stories reeves.htm Samuel Reeves Bot generated title ref ref http www.landminesurvivors.org news article.php?id 516 LSN Landmine Survivors Network Bot generated title ref ref http philadelphia.bizjournals.com philadelphia stories 2006 05 01 story3.html?page 1 Competition spawns companies Philadelphia Business Journal Bot generated title ... more details
Unreferenced date August 2007 Expert subject culture date August 2008 Humanistic Informatics also known as Humanities informatics is one of several names chosen for the study of the relationship between human culture and technology . The term is fairly common in Europe , but is little known in the English speaking world , though Digital Humanities also known as Humanities computing is in many cases roughly equivalent. Humanistic informatics departments were generally started in the 1990s when universities rarely taught humanities based approaches to the rapidly developing computerized society. For this reason, the field was quite broadly defined, and included courses in humanities computing, basic introductions to how computers work, historical developments of technology, technology and learning, digital art and literature and digital culture. Today several departments have declared more specialized areas of research, such as digital arts and culture at the University of Bergen , and socio cultural communication with and without technology at the University of Aalborg . Digital Humanities is a primary topic, and there are several universities in the US and the UK that have Digital Arts and Humanities research and development centers. One aspect of Digital Humanities that will grow will be the intersection of new digital media and the humanities, particularly in the gaming industry which has developed both casual and serious gaming and game design strategies to foster learning in the humanities and all other academic disciplines. A key principle in all digital interactive media or games is the storyline the narrative or quest or goal of the game is primary to both literary works and games. Characters and players go on the quest, and playing the game becomes the narrative. Game design principles, also relevant in literature and the fine arts, include visual literacy and empowering ... links Departments of humanistic informatics at universities http infouma.di.unipi.it laurea descrittoriDublino.asp ... more details
