The National Collegiate Wrestling Association NCWA is a post secondary athletic association built to help the promotion of collegiate wrestling . The organization was founded in 1997 as a 501c3 non profit by the current executive director, Jim Giunta after resigning as executive director of the Texas Interscholastic Wrestling Association TIWA . At it s founding the association had 13 member teams, but today the NCWA is composed of over 150 wrestling teams and clubs from across the United States and Canada. Many of these programs were formerly NCAA scholarship programs which were affected by Title IX legislation, which has resulted in many colleges being forced to give up their wrestling programs in the name of gender equity. The variety of institutions competing in the NCWA is wide and unrestricted as junior colleges, trade schools and post secondary prep institutions which compete in the same national championship as four year colleges and universities. The NCWA is divided into seven regional conferences and two divisions. Division I teams are funded by the university and many give athletic scholarships, Division II teams are clubs and may operate on campuses where there are established NCAA DI Teams. Women s College Wrestling Championships In 2007 the NCWA become the only collegiateassociation in the U.S. to officially recognize women s collegiate wrestling matches were done using collegiate folkstyle rules unlike freestyle, which was the norm for previous competitions . The NCWA sponsored the first women s collegiate national championship in Lakeland, Florida in March 2008, where nine women s teams were represented. Unreferenced date February 2007 The Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association PCAA is an athletic conference established in 1979 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a partnership between the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Association EPCC and Western Pennsylvania Athletic Association WPCC . Both the EPCC and the WPCC are separate entities functioning as athletic conferences, both with long standing success and local notoriety. Both the EPCC and the WPCC still govern themselves and function separately from each other however the EPCC champion and the WPCC champion face each other in a special post season match to crown a PCAA champion each season within each sport. The PCAA offers competition in a total of six men s sports, six women s sports, and three co ed team sports. The PCAA & The NJCAA The PCAA has a partnership with the National Junior College Athletic Association NJCAA which serves as a level of accountability for the EPCC and the WPCC. The PCAA has adopted many of its policies and regulations from the NJCAA. Although the PCAA is not an officially chartered conference of the NJCAA, several of the schools in both the EPCC and WPCC are member schools of the NJCAA and play in NJCAA sanctioned competition, especially in sports not offered by the PCAA. Many NJCAA schools compete in local regional post season tournaments within their conference such as the EPCC and WPCC championship tournaments and also compete in national post season competition, just like most NCAA and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics NAIA schools do. PCAA School Membership The EPCC and WPCC are composed of the junior college s, community college s, and technical school s in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that have varsity college athletics athletic programs.
