File Garrett Mesoamerican Manuscripts, no. 3a, fol. 18v 19r C0744 .jpg right 300px thumb Example of a testerian codex, explaining the Catechism in pictures. Fray Jacobo de Testera or Jacobo de Tastera was a Franciscan order Franciscan Friar of the 16th century who worked as a missionary to the indigenous peoples of New Spain . Born into a noble family in Bayonne , France he entered the Franciscan order around 1500 and went to Seville where he eventually became palace priest of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor Charles V . In 1527 he was recruited by Fray Antonio de Ciudad Rodrigo to go to Mexico where he arrived in 1529. Aong the first things he witnessed was the beating to death of the indigenous ruler of Tacubaya by Diego Delgadillo for not being able to provide the latter with sufficient workers to construct his palace. Tastera became the companion of Archbishop Juan de Zum rraga before deciding to dedicate himself to the mission. He started to work closely with Fray Pedro de Gante , creating instructional materials for the natives. He missionized in Michoac n and in Atlixco before going to work among the Maya people of Yucat n and later among the Nahua people of Huejotzinco , where he spent the last part of his life in the monastery. He was a colleague of Toribio de Benavente Motolinia and a friend of Bartolom de las Casas . As he never became fluent in an indigenous language he invented a way of proselytizing with images called Testerian codex codices employing the rebus system to teach Indians Christian doctrine. ref cite journal author aut Chauvet, Fidel title Fray Jacobo de Tastera, misionero y civilizador del siglo XVI journal Estudios de Historia Novohispana volume 3 year 1970 pages 7 33 url http www.iih.unam.mx publicaciones revistas novohispana pdf novo03 0025.pdf ref References reflist Persondata Metadata see Wikipedia Persondata . Following is a List of battles of the French intervention in Mexico 1862 1867 . The French intervention in Mexico was an invasion of the Republic of Mexico by the army of the Second French Empire in 1862. It resulted in the establishment of the Second Mexican Empire in 1864, which was supported by many conservative Mexicans, under the Austrian Maximilian I of Mexico . Although the Empire established control of the center of the country, the republicans held out in the North and South. With the end of the American Civil War , the USA lent its support to the republicans and put pressure on the French to withdraw in 1866. The Imperial forces fought on, but were defeated in a series of battles, with the republicans regaining control of the City of Mexico on 15 May 1867. Maximilian was captured and then executed on 19 June 1867. ref cite book author Haslip, Joan title Imperial Adventurer Emperor Maximilian of Mexico year 1971 ISBN 0 297 00363 1 ref Battles and Sieges Image BattleofPuebla2.jpg thumb 300px Battle of Puebla 5 May 1862 File San Pablo del Monte.jpg thumb 300px Battle of San Pablo del Monte 5 May 1862 File Francisco de P. A flower war or flowery war lang nah x chiy y tl , lang es guerra florida is the name given to the battles fought between the Aztec Triple Alliance and some of their enemies most notably the city states of Tlaxcala Nahua state Tlaxcala , Huejotzingo , Atlixco and Cholula Mesoamerican site Cholula . Sources In his Dur n Codex , Diego Dur n states that the Flower wars were instigated by the Aztec Cihuacoatl position Cihuacoatl , ref first advisor to the Tlatoani ref Tlacaelel , because of a great famine that occurred during the reign of Moctezuma I , which could only be assuaged through the means of human sacrifice. As a result, a treaty was signed between Tenochtitlan the Aztec capital , Texcoco Aztec site Texcoco , Tlaxcala and Huejotzingo, to engage in ritual battles which would provide fresh victims. However another source, noble historian Chimalpahin Quauhtlehuanitzin , mentions an earlier Flower War between Mexica and the Chalca . The sixteenth century chronicle a History of Tlaxcala , by Tlaxcalan Diego Mu oz Camargo contains a legend of a powerful Tlaxcalteca warrior called Tlahui ole, who was captured, but because of his fame as a warrior he was freed and then fought with the Aztecs against the Tarascan state Tarascans in Michoac n . He received honors, but instead of returning to Tlaxcala he chose to die in sacrifice. There were eight days of celebrations in his honor, and then he killed the first eight warriors. Still insisting on being sacrificed, he fought and wounded 20 more warriors before being defeated and sacrificed. Discussion The exact nature of the Flower Wars is not well determined but a number of different interpretations of the concept exist. One popular idea of the Flower Wars is that it was a special institutionalized kind of warfare where two enemy states would plan battles through mutual arrangement in order to satisfy the religious needs of both combatants for war captives to use in Human sacrifice in Aztec culture sacrificial rituals , b ... more details
