    August Musarurwa usually identified as August Msarurgwa on record labels was the Zimbabwean composer of the 1950s hit tune Skokiaan also known as Skokiyana, Skokian . History The most extensive description of Musarurwa is found in the Zimbabwean newspaper, The Herald Zimbabwe The Herald http www.herald.co.zw inside.aspx?sectid 12250&cat 3&livedate 12 6 2006 . According to The Herald , Musarurwa was born and raised in the Zvimba http www.sahims.net gis zimbabwe bitmaps zim who.pdf map district of Mashonaland , a region in the north of what was then Southern Rhodesia . He attended Marshall Hartley School before moving to what was then Salisbury Harare to find work. After working as a clerk for a tobacco company, he joined the British South African Police as a 22 year old. The BSAP employed Musarurwa as an interpreter, but later he transferred to the police band. He left the BSAP to work for the Bulawayo Cold Storage Commission , living in the company s compound. As leader of the African Dance Band of the Cold Storage Commission of Southern Rhodesia , Musarurwa recorded Skokiaan as an instrumental in 1947. A second version of the tune was released in the United States by London Records in 1954 under the name of the Bulawayo Sweet Rhythms Band , as Musarurwa s band was now called. Louis Armstrong met Musarurwa in November 1960 during his African tour. According to The Herald , Armstrong gave Musarurwa a jacket and invited him to visit the United States.     August Vermeylen 1872 in Brussels 1945 in Ukkel was a Belgium Belgian writer and literature critic. In 1893 he founded the journal Van Nu en Straks English Today and Tomorrow . He studied history at the Universit Libre de Bruxelles ULB , and became a professor of literature and of art history at the ULB 1901 1923 . In addition to many works of literary and art criticism, he wrote poetry and in 1906 a novel, De wandelende Jood English The Wandering Jew . A cultural organization, the Vermeylenfonds , was named after him. Politically, Vermeylen supported both the unitarian Belgian state to the point of condemning the Flemish movement History Flemish Pro German activists during the first World War and an equal status for the Dutch language in that state. From 1921 to his death he was a senator for the Belgian Labour Party . In 1930, he became the first rector of the newly Dutchified Flanders Flemish Universiteit Gent . In 1938, he became vice president of the Senate. In 1940, he was removed from all his official functions by the Nazi Germany German occupation force. He studied medicine in University of Marburg Marburg and University of Freiburg Freiburg , earning his medical doctorate in 1887. In 1889 be began work at a mental asylum in Eberswalde , and in 1895 received his habilitation in psychiatry at the University of G ttingen , where he subsequently became a professor and director of the psychiatric clinic.
