Born at Bromley , near Bow, London Bow and brought up in the Anglican creed, she was influenced by Tractarian teachings and joined the Roman Catholic Church around 1850. She wrote, and published anonymously, an essay questioning the morality of Tractarianism , which was attributed to John Henry Newman . In 1852, after a prolonged stay in Rome , she joined the Dominican Order third order of St. Dominic , to which she belonged for over forty years. She was prioress of Stone, Staffordshire , where she died, aged 70. It is a frac 1 1 2 story, long rectangular log and frame structure with a pitched gable roof, and an exterior stone chimney. A small cemetery about 100 yards to the north marks the site of Zion Lutheran Church dedicated in 1851 , and includes a simple brown fieldstone headstone marked J.D. June 27, 1828. The house was constructed about 1800 by James Drane, the first permanent settler in the Accident area. Olive Fleming Drane is a Scottish theologian and Christian minister who is widely known for her use of clowning in the pulpit. As her clown characters Valentine and Barni she has traveled the world, and been featured in radio and TV programs in many countries. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she was educated in England and there she met her husband John Drane while they were both teenagers. She originally worked in research physics and medical technology, but then studied theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, in the early 1990s, and also has a Master of Theology degree from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. She works alongside local churches as a mission consultant as well as continuing a worldwide ministry of teaching and preaching. She is a Fellow of St John s College, Durham , where she teaches on the MA in theology and ministry at the Anglican theological school Cranmer Hall . She is also an adjunct professor in the School of Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary , Pasadena, California, and is involved in the teaching and development of the mission shaped ministry course of the Church of England s Fresh Expressions initiative.
