Aircraft The aircraft was the fourth of six new aircraft ordered by Australian National Airlines Commission for TAA. It was first flown on March 2nd 1971 at Long Beach and was entered onto the Australian register as VH TJS on April 1st 1971 and was powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines. Incident On the 21 September 1982 the crew of TAA Flight TN454 encounted a stowaway who was part of an attempted robbery attempt at 4 Queensland airports. The attempted robbery involved four men who were all Melbourne identies, who were associates or close to the Painters & Dockers Union. The plan was for four men to consign themselves as freight in a wooden box and then during the flight substitute the reserve bank money with telephone books. Cargo porters at Rockhampton Airport called police when they saw a hand quickly pull down a lid on a wooden box. Queensland Police later discovered men hidden in freight boxes stacked with telephone books at Mt Isa, Townsville and Brisbane Airports.
