  1. Autonomous agent

An autonomous agent is an intelligent agent operating on an owner s behalf but without any interference of that ownership entity. An intelligent agent , however appears according to a multiply cited statement in a no longer accessible IBM white paper as follows blockquote Intelligent agents are software entities that carry out some set of operations on behalf of a user or another program with some degree of independence or autonomy, and in so doing, employ some knowledge or representation of the user s goals or desires. blockquote Such agent is a system situated in, and part of, a technical or natural environment, which senses any or some status of that environment, and acts on it, over time, in pursuit of its own agenda. Such agenda evolves from drive theory drives or programmed objective goal goals . The agent acts to change part of the environment or of its status and influences what it sensed. Non biological examples include intelligent agent s, autonomous robot s, and various software agent s, including artificial life agents, and many computer virus es. Biological examples are not yet defined. References Stan Franklin Franklin, Stan and Graesser, Art 1997 http www.msci.memphis.edu franklin AgentProg.html Is it an Agent, or just a Program? 1. Rational agent

In economics , game theory , decision theory , and artificial intelligence , a rational agent is an agent which has clear preferences , models uncertainty via expected values , and always chooses to perform the action that results in the Optimization mathematics optimal outcome for itself from among all feasible actions. Rational agents are also studied in the fields of cognitive science , ethics , and philosophy, including the philosophy of practical reason . A rational agent can be anything that makes decisions, typically a person, firm, machine, or software. The action a rational agent takes depends on the preferences of the agent the agent s information of its environment, which may come from past experiences the actions, duties and obligations available to the agent the estimated or actual benefits and the chances of success of the actions. In game theory and classical economics , it is often assumed that the actor s, people, and firms are rational. However, the extent that people and firms behave rationally is subject to debate. Economists often assume the models of rational choice theory and bounded rationality to formalize and predict the behavior of individuals and firms. Rational agents sometimes behave in manners that are counter intuitive to many people, as in the Traveler s dilemma . Artificial intelligence has borrowed the term rational agents from economics to describe autonomous programs that are capable of goal directed behavior. Today there is a considerable overlap between AI research, game theory and decision theory. 1. Art agent

Unreferenced date July 2009 An art agent is an Agent law agent who represents artist s. The agent functions by attempting to sell the works of an artist, or to otherwise find lucrative opportunities for the artist. The two parties have a contract worked out, where the agent takes a cut of the sales from any and all works, which may vary, depending on the relationship. Typically the range for a successful non gallery sale is between 15 and 35 to the agent of the final sales price when the agent is responsible for bringing a buyer. Arts sales made at a Gallery are often split 50 50 between the artist or Trust and the Gallery. It is in the art agent s best interests to sell the works of the artist. Many unrecognized artists, no matter how talented, may find it hard to find an art agent willing to sell their works.
