Originally from the Zamorin kingdom, he earned the respect of Balarama Varma who became king at the age of 16. Sankaran Nampoothiri was able to become Dalawa of Travancore for a brief period, and ordered the Tahsildar s of the districts to collect taxes from the rich landlords. He ordered Velu Thampi to pay him an amount of Rs. 3000 to which Velu Thampi responded asking for three days time. At the end of the third day Velu Thampi arrived at the capital of Trivandrum and forced the Maharajah to banish the Namboodiri and his associates from the country. The Abba asks what he can do and the spirit tells him to bring the townspeople and any iron tools that they can find. They are to wait for a disturbance on the water and then they must beat the water and shout Our Triumph, Our Triumph also translated as We Win . He gathers them up and they banish the evil spirit. It was a difficult time, and the lesson they brought away from this parable was that the spirits were created to not need help, and even they are asking for help, so it is no weakness for man to need assistance in these times.
