Merge dog date August 2009 Merge Islam and animals date August 2009 Merge Dogs in religion date August 2009 Orphan date February 2009 Kalb means dog in the Arabic language . Many but not all Muslims consider dogs to be unclean, and the Qur an , like the Bible , has several negative things to say about dogs. Qur an tells Muslims to use dogs in purpose of Guard only. Nonetheless, it is basically unwise to make generalizations about attitudes toward dogs in religion, even if the discussion were limited to only Abrahamic religions. After all, many Christians view dogs positively and see them as having an association with Saint Christopher . Bedouin people rely heavily on the Saluki for hunting, and this was mentioned in episode number 76 of the Animal Planet television program Breed All About It . Some communities of Buddhist monks rely on the Tibetan Terrier as an alarm dog to wake up guarding Tibetan Mastiff mastiff s, because the monks themselves are forbidden to employ violence. There can be some unfortunate problems associated with the word kalb because, even though it is also used in many other ways, it can be used as an epithet and it can be found in compound terms such as beni el kalb which means sons of dogs, or ibn al kalb which means son of a dog. Both terms were used in context and explained by author Frederick Forsyth in his novel The Fist of God . Additionally, Kalb means calf baby cow in German. In the Quest for Glory III computer game , the effusively flattering animated character of the meat merchant, in the bazaar in the city of Tarna, calls himself Kalb. The Banu Judham is a Yemen i tribe that emigrated to Syria and Egypt and dwelled with the Azd and Banu Hamadan Hamdan Kahlani tribes. Most Arab genealogists are not sure whether they are a Kahlani or a Himyarite tribe. Settling in Syria and Egypt The Judham Jurham tribe itself claimed Yemeni origin. They maintained an alliance with the Kalbid and Azdi tribes in the Ghassanid kingdom, they mainly settled Amman , Jabal Amel , Northern Egypt and Tabuk, Saudi Arabia Tabuk . After the Battle of Yarmouk At the time of the Battle of Yarmouk 636AD, they were combined to the Ghassanid columns that defected to the Muslims. Most the tribe converted to Islam and eventually broke off the alliance with the Ghassanids, along with the Kalbids they played an important role in the Islamization of Syria. Alliance with the Kalbids They were allies to the Umayyid s, supporting the Kalb tribe against that of Qais . Their alliance with the Kalbids was to cost them dearly. The Qaisi tribes gained more power after the fall of Ummayids and the raise of their new allies in Baghdad the Abbasids this led to a series of revenge wars that extended until the 18th century.
