Baptist History The first organization of Conservative Baptists was the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society CBFMS , now called WorldVenture , formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1943. The Conservative BaptistAssociation of America was organized in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1947. The Association operates under the name CBAmerica . The Conservative BaptistAssociation emerged as part of the continuing Fundamentalist Modernist Controversy within the American Baptist Convention Northern Baptist Convention . The forming churches were fundamental conservative churches that had remained in cooperation with the Northern Baptist Convention after other churches had left, such as those that formed the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches . At the 1946 NBC meeting, the old convention made it clear that it would not allow a competing missionary agency to operate within it. Churches withdrew, forming the new association, and hundreds of others withdrew in the following years. Baptist The Christian Unity BaptistAssociation was organized September 27 September 28, 1935 at Zion Hill Church in Ashe County, North Carolina , by six Baptist congregations. Some of these churches were remnants of the Macedonia BaptistAssociation , which existed for a short time in the first quarter of the 20th century. These churches had a mixed MissionaryBaptist and Primitive Baptist background. Leaders in this new organization included Frank Sturgill, F. Carl Sturgill, and Nancy Owens. Though the Christian Unity Association shared much in common with fellow mountain Baptists, they differed from the majority of them in three important points 1 falling from grace 2 open communion and 3 women preachers. Two women preached at the organizational meeting. The Christian Unity BaptistAssociation is defunct. This body divided in 1969, and the majority chose to affiliate with the Separate Baptists in Christ General Association of Separate Baptists . The minority represented continuity with the original constitution and articles of faith.
