The NBC Orange Network , also known as the NBC Pacific Coast network was a National Broadcasting Company radio network in the western United States from 1927 to 1936, before two way broadcast quality communications circuits reached the West to relay the larger NBC Red Network and NBC Blue Network . The Orange Network had its own production and performance staffs on the West Coast. In addition to producing original West Coast works, the Orange Network also had duplicate productions of many eastern shows until the end of 1928. In December 1928, a single broadcast quality line was completed to San Francisco , and the Orange Network could then carry eastern programming directly, but only one program at a time from then until 1936, Orange Network fed some programs from Red and some from Blue. ref name barm nbc cite web url http www.bayarearadio.org schneider nbc.shtml title The NBC Pacific Coast Network first John F. last Schneider work Voices Out of the Fog publisher Bay Area Radio Museum accessdate 2010 07 14 ref In 1936, a second broadcast quality circuit was completed, this time to Los Angeles . The chip butty can be vegetarian friendly if the chips are not fried in lard or dripping , as used to be traditional in a British chip shop . One variation is the chip bap or barm , which uses a floury bap or barm cake instead of white sliced bread. Another variation frequently seen in the North is the scollop butty , in which the chips are battered before frying. A football chant sung to Annie s Song by John Denver called The Greasy Chip Butty Song is popular with the supporters of Sheffield United Football Club. The chip butty made an appearance as a power up in the video game Earthworm Jim 2 , introducing the dish to foreign gamers. See also Ba ... more details

One source article date February 2008 Image Barmbrack.jpg thumbnail right Two loaves of barmbrack Barmbrack lang ga b ir n breac ref http www.focal.ie Search.aspx?term barm brack Focal.ie ref is a yeast ed bread with added sultana grape sultana s and raisin s. Usually sold in flattened rounds, it is often served toast ed with butter along with a cup of tea in the afternoon. The dough is sweeter than sandwich bread, but not as rich as cake , and the sultanas and raisins add flavour and texture to the final product. In Ireland it is sometimes called B ir n Breac, and the term is also used as two words in its more common version. This may either be from the Irish word b ir n a loaf and breac speckled due to the raisins in it , hence it means a speckled loaf a similar etymology to the Welsh bara brith . The yeast used was said to be skimmed from the top of fermenting beer and, as beer would also have been made at this time, this is likely. This suggests an alternative etymology, from the use of barm as just such a yeast. Halloween tradition Barnbrack is the centre of an Irish Halloween custom. The Halloween Brack traditionally contained various objects baked into the bread and was used as a sort of fortune telling game. In the barnbrack were a pea, a stick, a piece of cloth, a small coin originally a silver sixpence and a ring. Each item, when received in the slice, was supposed to carry a meaning to the person concerned the pea, the person would not marry that year the stick, would have an unhappy marriage or continually be in disputes the cloth or rag, would have bad luck or be poor the coin, would enjoy good fortune or be rich and the ring, would be wed within the year. Other articles added to the brack include a medallion, usually of the Virgin Mary to symbolise going into the priesthood or to the Nuns, although this tradition is not widely continued in the present day. Commercially produced barmbracks for the Halloween market still include a toy ring. Other referen ... more details
