Born at Shady Oak near Winchester, Virginia , Barton pursued in academic studies, studied law and was admitted to the bar, commencing practice in Winchester. He was a member of the Virginia General Assembly from 1823 to 1824, 1832 to 1835 and in 1839. He was elected a Whig Party United States Whig to the United States House of Representatives in 1840, serving from 1841 to 1843, being unsuccessful for reelection in 1842. Afterwards, Barton resume practicing law in Winchester, Virginia until his death on his estate called Springdale near Winchester on March 15, 1859. The Barton Arboretum & Nature Preserve http medfordleas.org arboretum.htm is a convert 168 acre km2 sing on arboretum and nature preserve located in Medford, New Jersey Medford Township . The arboretum is situated on the grounds of Medford Leas http medfordleas.org , a not for profit, Quaker related community for adults age 55 and older. The arboretum is on the edge of the Pine Barrens New Jersey Pine Barrens , and includes landscaped grounds, courtyard garden s, wildflower meadow s, natural woodland s and wetland s, as well as tree collections. It was created with the assistance of the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania . The Morris Arboretum continues to provide technical support. Attractions include the Pinetum an international collection of exotic pines, a conifer collection, a convert 0.5 acre m2 sing on rhododendron woodland, holly , viburnum , and crabapple collections, and an experimental planting of chestnut trees being grown in cooperation with The American Chestnut Foundation . The floor of Barton crater is flat and radar dark, indicating possible infilling by lava flows sometime following the impact. Barton s central peak ring is discontinuous and appears to have been disrupted or separated during or following the cratering process.
