He, along with Basava, Allama Prabhu and Akka Mahadevi , played a pivotal role in the propagation of the Veerashaiva faith. He also wrote the Karana Hasuge which is one of the most sacred texts of the Veerashaivas . A sacred temple of Channabasavanna is located at Ulavi in Karwar District Uttar Kannada of Karnataka State, India. The temple of Channabasavanna faces the east. In front of the temple there is a spacious lake. The lake is filled with lotus flowers and hence very attractive. Devotees coming from different parts of the country, take a dip in the holy waters and are absolved of all their sins and impurities. Thrice a day the Mahasamadhi of Channabasavanna is worshipped with all pomp and ceremony. On the Samadhi is placed the face of Nandi. To the left is Sangameshwar, to the right Mallikarjuna and to the right of Mallikarjuna is Basavanna. The Mantap outside the temple is very beautiful. To the east and to the south there are doors.     Chikka Virarajendra Kannada lang kn , cika cikka v rar jendra also in other variations, including Chikkaveera Rajendra , was the last ruler of the Kodagu Coorg kingdom in South India . His actual name was Vira Rajendra, but this was the name of his uncle as well as both of them were rulers of Kodagu, the prefix Chikka Kannada and Kodava Takk for Younger is used as a distinguisher. In 1834 Common Era CE , he was deposed and exiled by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland British his kingdom was annexed into British India as a separate chief commissionership. In literature and media The famous Kannada litterateur and Jnanpith Award recipient, Masti Venkatesha Iyengar , wrote a critically acclaimed book, Chikavira Rajendra , based on the life and times of that ruler. This book is widely noted for its balanced handling of the subject it neither comprises a litany of the supposed misdeeds of the protagonist, nor emerges as a tract against the British. The book is redolent with the culture and ethos of its milieu, being Kodagu in the mid 19th century. In the novel, Iyengar portrays Chikka Virarajendra as having had only one close confidant &mdash his childhood friend, Basava. In one instance, the king is depicted as having killed his sister s infant child in a fit of rage. With support for his rule rapidly diminishing, Chikka Virarajendra is on course for an all out conflict with the British Raj and takes refuge in Nalknad Palace . The king kills Basava, charging him with sedition. Chikka Virarajendra is unable to resist the British attack and with the invasion complete, is sent to exile in 1834. It was the fountainhead of all religious and philosophical thought pertaining to the Lingayat . It was presided over by the mystic Allama Prabhu and numerous Sharanas from all over Karnataka and other parts of India were participants. This institution was also the fountainhead of the Vachana literature which was used as the vector to propagate Lingayata religious and philosophical thought.
