Traditional Story of the Statue of OurLady of Bonaria On March 25, 1370, a ship coming from Spain was traveling towards Italy when it was seized by a terrible storm that put the lives of the crew and passengers at risk. The captain, in a last attempt to save the crew of the ship, ordered the sailors to cast into the sea the ship s cargo. This was done but without any aid to the sailors. There was a large crate within the ship s cargo this was cast into the sea last of all the cargo. Suddenly, upon the crate entering the water, the storm ceased. The ship, attempting to regain the cargo, followed the crate for some time. Unable to retrieve it, the ship returned to its original route. It is at the Church of OurLady of the Cedars of Lebanon in Woodmead , Sandton . Unofficially known as OurLady of the Highway, the shrine is close to the busy Johannesburg Pretoria freeway. Building commenced in November 1992 by the Superior, Rev. Fr. Elie Madi and was consecrated by the historic visit of Patriarch Cardinal Nasrallah Peter Sfeir. The original statue was too small for the Shrine and in 1998 with the approval of Fr Tabet Superior , plans were made for a new statue to be manufactured. The Shrine of OurLady of Yankalilla is an Australian site venerating the Mary mother of Jesus Virgin Mary , the mother of Jesus . The shrine is inside the Anglican parish church in Yankalilla, South Australia Yankalilla , a town one hour s drive southeast of Adelaide , South Australia . In August 1994 an image was said to have become visible on a wall behind the altar of the 137 year old stone church. The image was interpreted to be an image of the Virgin Mary which depicted her face, features, shoulders and abdomen. It is also claimed that the image depicts Mary holding the crucified Christ in the manner of a piet . Her gaze is directed toward the church tabernacle tabernacle below, which contains the consecrated eucharist ic bread.
