The Cheshire Basin is a late Palaeozoic and Mesozoic sedimentary basin which extends under most of the county of Cheshire in northwest England . It extends northwards into the Manchester area and south into Shropshire . The basin possesses something of the character of a graben half graben as its deepest extent is along its eastern and southeastern margins where it is well defined by a series of sub parallel fault geology faults , most important of which is the Wem Bridgemere Red Rock Fault System Red Rock Fault . These faults divide the basin from the older Carboniferous rocks of the Peak District and the North Staffordshire Coalfield . In terms of its architecture, the basin is sometimes considered to be divided into two sub basins the more southerly Wem Audlem Sub basin and the Sandbach Knutsford Sub basin to its northeast. The basin fill is mainly Permian and Triassic sandstone s and mudstone s though also incorporating economically important halite beds. The sequences referred to the Sherwood Sandstone Group and the overlying Mercia Mudstone Group are the thickest in England. An isolated outlier geology outlier of Jurassic rocks occurs within the basin at Prees in north Shropshire. The basin is just one part of a wider complex of basins which include the Worcester Graben , the Stafford Basin and the East Irish Sea Basin , the development of each of which began whilst the crust geology crust of this region was experiencing east west tension during the Permian period geology period . It is traversed by a series of largely north south aligned normal fault s, some of which help to define the Mid Cheshire Ridge and Alderley Edge , two upstanding areas within the Cheshire Plain . ref British Geological Survey 1 50K map sheets 97,98, 108 111, 122,123 ref ref Plant et al eds 1999, The Cheshire Basinbasin evolution, fluid movement and mineral resources in a Permo Triassic rift setting , British Geological Survey ref References Reflist Category Sedimentary basins of Europe ... more details

Basin modelling is the term broadly applied to a group of geology geological disciplines that can be used to analyse the formation and evolution of sedimentary basin s, often but not exclusively to aid evaluation of potential hydrocarbon reserves. At its most basic, a basin modelling exercise must assess The burial history of the basin see back stripping . The thermal history of the basin see thermal history modelling . The maturity history of the source rock s. The expulsion, migration and trapping of hydrocarbons. By doing so, valuable inferences can be made about such matters as hydrocarbon generation and timing, maturity of potential source rocks and migration paths of expelled hydrocarbons. The Okanagan Basin spans two countries and comprises the basin of Okanagan Lake , the Okanogan River and tributary valleys such as that of the Similkameen River Similkameen and Chelan River s. In Canada the basin constitutes two distinct regions within British Columbia , the Similkameen Country to the west and the main Okanagan region running from the communities of Osoyoos in the south to Armstrong in the north incorporating most of the three Okanagan regional districts and is usually known as the Okanagan or as the Okanagan Valley or the Okanagan Country. In the United States , the Okanogan Country is the western, lowland core of Okanogan County , which like its Canadian counterpart has a history and economy based on ranching, gold, fruit orcharding and vineyards, but the basin includes Lake Chelan and other flanking valleys. Communities in Washington s Okanogan Basin include Pateros, Washington Pateros , Oroville, Washington Oroville and Omak, Washington Omak . Almost 200 km long and 21,600 km sup 2 sup in area, the Okanagan watershed is approximately 2 3 the size of Vancouver Island . Okanagan Lake dominates the basin which contains many small lakes and watercourses. The Okanagan Valley was carved out by glaciers, and when the ice retreated approximately 10,000 years ago, the basin was filled with one huge waterbody, Lake Penticton. The Valley was scoured to something like its current state when an ice dam at the southern end of Lake Penticton melted, emptying most of the valley. The Okanagan Basin is also considered one of the most arid watersheds in Canada, with an urgent need for effective water management. Unreferenced date May 2008 An emesis basin is a shallow Bowl vessel basin with a kidney shaped footprint and sloping walls hence its alternate name, the kidney basin . Various sizes of emesis basin are a common sight in healthcare settings, including facilities such as nursing homes that may have bedridden patients. It was invented by Bessie Blount Griffin Bessie Virginia Blount . Contrary to its name, emesis basins are not usually used for vomiting , as the depth, size, and sloping walls all contribute to spilling or splashing the vomit rather than catching it. For this purpose, a plastic bag or wash basin is often preferred, especially by ambulance crews who may need to receive the vomit while driving rapidly, and then hand it over for analysis. Emesis basins are suited for more controlled situations. When washing out a small wound, for example, sometimes the wash water is applied from above with an emesis basin held underneath to catch the runoff.
