The National Electricity Market NEM is the name of the Australia n wholesale electricity market and the associated Wide area synchronous grid synchronous electricity transmission grid. The NEM began operation on 13 December 1998, and operations are currently based in five interconnected regions Queensland , New South Wales , Tasmania , Victoria Australia Victoria and South Australia .
