Chongzhen Emperor committed suicide. It ended 276 years of Ming rule and Li Zicheng, though most of the Ming Court fled south, setting up the Southern Ming Dynasty. The Battle of Beijing was not really a battle, since Li s army marched onto the capital unopposed. Even within the city, no Ming troops resisted. However Li Zicheng then ordered the soldiers to kill the Ming remnants still existing in Beijing. This resulted in strong rebellions from the recently surrendered forces of Southern Ming inside Beijing, which numbered over 200,000 men.
