  1. Cultural behavior

Unreferenced date December 2009 Original research date October 2009 Cultural behavior is behavior exhibited by humans and, some would argue, by other species as well, though to a much lesser degree that is extrasomatic or extragenetic , in other words, learned. Learned Behavior There is a species of ant that builds nests made of leaves. To build a nest, some of these ants pull the edges of two leaves together and hold them in place, while others carry larva in their jaws and sew them together with the silk they secrete. This is certainly a complex feat of engineering, but it is not cultural. This behavior is instinctive, built into the ants behavior mechanisms. They cannot alter their plans or think of better ways to join leaves. They cannot teach or be taught to do so. But there are examples of animals that can learn behaviors, such as dogs and cats . A dog doesn t know instinctively not to urinate or defecate indoors, but it can be taught not to do so. Dogs are capable of learning specific behaviors. 1. Spider behavior

The behavior of spiders is an often neglected topic in the study of arachnology , stemming from the fact that it is much easier to collect dead specimens for later examination than to observe them in their often inaccessible habitat, or to create laboratory conditions suitable for the observation of natural behavior. Hunting Many spiders, but not all, build webs. The bolas spiders use a sticky globule, together with a pheromone analogue, to catch moths. Jumping spiders , and many other types of spiders as well, hunt freely. Some of these have enhanced eyesight, sometimes approaching that of a pigeon although with a much smaller field of vision . Some spiders hunt other spiders the jumping spider Portia spider Portia mimics the movement of captured insect prey to attract web building spiders, and then overwhelms them. Reproduction Other arachnids may reproduce asexually or sexually. This is seeing as their class makes up 3 of the animal kingdom. The female tends to eat the male. File Cats having sex in Israel.jpg thumb Example of feline lordosis behavior during copulation. Lordosis behavior , or mammalian lordosis , is a physical Animal sexual behaviour sexual posture seen in female mammal s, including mouse mice , cat s and many others, the primary characteristic of which is a ventral arching of the vertebral column spine . During lordosis, the spine curves so that the apex points in the ventral direction. That is, the spine arches inward toward the abdomen. Lordosis can be seen during the mating process, both pre copulation and or during copulation. It may be seen as an invitation to mate. Lordosis aids in copulation, as it elevates the hips to allow for intercourse. It is commonly seen in female animals during estrus . 1. Flocking (behavior)

Image Grus grus flocks.jpg thumb 200px right Two flocks of Common Crane s Flocking behavior is the behavior exhibited when a group of birds, called a Flock birds flock , are foraging or in flight. There are parallels with the Shoaling and schooling shoaling behavior of fish, the swarm ing behavior of insects, and herd behavior of land animals. Computer simulations and mathematical models which have been developed to emulate the flocking behaviors of birds can generally be applied also to the flocking behavior of other species. As a result, the term flocking is sometimes applied, in computer science, to species other than birds. This article is about the modelling of flocking behavior.
