for the moon of Saturn Bergelmir moon In Norse mythology , Bergelmir IPAc en icon b r j l m r respell bair YEL meer Old Norse Mountain Yeller or Bear Yeller ref Lindow, 2001. Lindow also gives Bare Yeller as a third possible interpretation. ref is a J tunn frost giant , the son of giant r gelmir and the grandson of Ymir who was called Aurgelmir among giants , the first frost giant, according to stanza 29 of the poem Vafthrudnismal from the Poetic Edda Uncountable winters before the earth was made, then Bergelmir was born, r gelmir Thrudgelmir was his father, and ymir Aurgelmir his grandfather. Larrington trans. According to the Gylfaginning section of the Prose Edda by Snorri Sturluson , Bergelmir and his wife alone among the giants were the only survivors of the enormous deluge mythology deluge of blood which flowed from Ymir s wounds when he was killed by Odin and his brothers Vili and Ve . They escaped the sanguinary flood by climbing onto an object and subsequently became the progenitors of a new race of frost giants. Theories R. D. Fulk notes that Snorri s Prose Edda account conflicts with the poetic version, as the Prose Edda presents a Noah like figure, while the latter has Bergelmir laid lagi r in the l r , implying he is an infant, as in the Scyld story. But Snorri does add the crucial element not made in the explicit verses, that the l r is to serve as a floating ... of ark derives solely from the passage in Snorra Edda , because of Bergelmir ... to a flour bin is baseless in the fact that Bergelmir and Karelian language Karelian Peko Pekko are related to Bergelmir. ref name FULK316 317 Fulk 1989 316 317 . ref Scholars John Lindow and Carolyne ... Sheppard , David C. Jewitt , Jan Kleyna , and Brian G. Marsden on May 4, 2005, from observations taken between December 12, 2004, and March 9, 2005. Bergelmir is about 6 kilometres in diameter, and orbits Saturn at an average distance of 19,372 Mm in 1006.659 days, at an inclination of 157 to the ecliptic 134 to Saturn s equator , in a retrograde motion retrograde direction and with an eccentricity orbit eccentricity of 0.152. It was named in April 2007 after Bergelmir , a J tunn giant from Norse mythology and the grandson of Ymir , the primordial giant. Bergelmir and his wife alone among their kind were the only survivors of the enormous deluge mythology deluge of blood from Ymir s wounds when he was killed by Odin and his brothers at the dawn of time. 1. Saturn's Norse group of satellites

The Norse group is a large group of retrograde motion retrograde irregular satellite s of Saturn . Their semi major axis semi major axes range between 12 and 24 Gm, their inclination s between 136 and 175 and their eccentricity orbit eccentricities between 0.13 and 0.77. Image TheIrregulars SATURN.svg thumb 300px Irregular satellites of Saturn. Unlike for the Inuit group Inuit and Gallic group s, the orbital parameters are widely dispersed and group is likely to be composed from a number of sub groups with more homogenous orbital and physical parameters. For example, the satellites with inclinations around 174 degree alone are though to be built with at least two sub groups. Eight other moons form the Skathi subgroup. Their semi major axis semi major axes range between 15 and 20 Gm, their inclination s between 147 and 158 . Narvi forms a separate sub group with Bestla. The diagram illustrates the Norse group in relation to other irregular satellites of Saturn. The eccentricity of the orbits is represented by the yellow segments extending from the apsis pericentre to the apsis apocentre with the inclination represented on Y axis. 1. World Mill

The World Mill also heavenly mill , cosmic mill and variants is a mytheme suggested as recurring in Indo European mythology Indo European and other mythologies. It involves the analogy of the cosmos or firmament and a rotating millstone . The mytheme was extensively explored in Viktor Rydberg s 1886 Investigations into Germanic Mythology . ref vol. 1, sections 79 82. http www.alfaleith.org reading rydberg 208.php 79. The Migration of Symbols and Their Relations to Beliefs and Customs New York Knopf, LCCN 26008213. ref Clive Tolley 1995 examined the significance of the mytheme in Indo European and Finnish mythology . ref Tolley 1995 Saga Book 24 63 82 . ref Tolley found that the image of a cosmic mill, ambivalently churning out well being or disaster, may be recognized in certain fragmentary myths , adding additional Indo European and Finnish analogs of the mill to the material previously considered by Rydberg and others. Tolley comes to the conclusion that the cosmic mill was not, in extant Norse sources, a widely developed mythologem. Nonetheless, the myth of Mundilf ri connects the turning of the cosmos via a mill handle with the regulation of seasons, and the myth of Bergelmir suggests the concept of a creative milling of a giant s body, associated in some way with the sea, Richard M. Dorson surveyed the views of 19th century writers on the World Mill in his 1968 historical review, Peasant Customs a ...   more details
