Expand German date December 2010 Arnold Bernstein Arnold Bernstein 23 January 1888 in Breslau 1971, Palm Beach, Florida was a German American shipowner and pioneer of transatlantic cargo transport, which he revolutionised since he was transporting goods without the usual wooden boxes and was thus able to reduce freight rates. When the 1929 Great Depression made the use of swimming garages impractical, Bernstein then turned his cargo ships into passenger ships, with just one travel class which he called tourist class rather than the three that were usual. One of the first Jewish merchant princes , he was one of the victims of the Aryanization Nazi appropriation policies . Julius Bernstein December 18, 1839 February 6, 1917 was a German physiologist born in Berlin . He studied medicine at the University of Breslau under Rudolf Heidenhain , and at the University of Berlin under Emil Du Bois Reymond . He received his medical degree at Berlin in 1862, and began his career at the Physiological Institute of the University of Heidelberg as an assistant to Hermann von Helmholtz .
