  1. Video BIOS

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Video BIOS is the BIOS of a graphics card in a usually IBM PC derived computer. Much the way the system BIOS provides a set of functions that are used by software programs to access the system hardware, the video BIOS provides a set of video related functions that are used by programs to access the video hardware. The video BIOS interfaces software to the video chipset in the same way that the system BIOS does for the system chipset. The ROM also contained a code page 437 basic font set to upload to the video adapter font RAM, if the video card did not contain a font ROM with this font set instead. Unlike some other hardware components, the video card usually needs to be active very early during the booting boot process so that the user can see what is going on. This requires the card to be activated before any operating system begins loading thus it needs to be activated by the BIOS , the only software that is present at this early stage. Early PCs contained functions for driving Monochrome Display Adapter MDA and Color Graphics Adapter CGA cards in the system BIOS, and those cards did not have any Video BIOS built in. When the Enhanced Graphics Adapter EGA card hit the market in 1984, the Video BIOS was introduced to make these cards compatible with existing PCs whose BIOS did not know how to drive an EGA card. Ever since, EGA VGA and all enhanced VGA compatible cards have included a Video BIOS. When the computer is started, some graphics cards usually NVIDIA cards displays its vendor, model, BIOS version and amount of graphics memory. 1. Scenic bios

Unreferenced date March 2009 Scenic bios is a term used to describe the state of physicality that a performer generates in the act of performance. It is a state of readiness and energy that is above and beyond the daily. Daily energy is that which we all employ during ordinary activity. It is usually the minimum required for practical requirement. Extra daily energy on the other hand, is that which the performer employs by various means such as balance, anatomical alteration, and other less obvious devices such as extra awareness and understanding of certain principles, in the very act of performance. Some of these principles, first recognized and formulated in empirical studies by Eugenio Barba , may be learned or they may be inherent. Such principles as wikt equivalence equivalence , Wiktionary dilation dilation , rhythm and timing, all seem like second nature, and the performer may not know that she is applying them in any strict sense. But, Barba has demonstrated that through physical training and exercises of his devising these principles can become fruitfully exploited by the actor in her endeavours. All these principles are believed by Barba to exist in the actors pre expressive being. This pre expressivity is otherwise known as scenic bios, or stage presence . 1. XDK Debug BIOS

Unreferenced date March 2008 The XDK Debug BIOS , is an alternate BIOS created by Microsoft for Xbox gaming system. It is included in Debug Xbox consoles that are used by game software developers. It differs from a Retail BIOS by allowing the Microsoft Xbox Development Kit XDK to link with the Xbox while it is executing code and receive feedback. It also allows for the running of code not digitally signed by Microsoft , similar to a hacked Retail BIOS , since finalized code must be submitted to Microsoft for a key to run on unmodified Retail consoles. The debug and retail BIOSes do not differ much, and as a result hackers have been able to create hacked debug BIOSes which can be run on any retail Xbox. Thus, any Xbox can be converted into a Development Xbox. By further studying the debug BIOS, hackers have gained the ability to modify any Xbox BIOS in a way which allows them to load it from the internal hard disk, and then boot it on the fly . This hack has been of great significance to the Xbox community. In the case of the Texas Instruments DaVinci DaVinci Digital signal processor DSP family from Texas Instruments , this scheme would allow passing of messages and data between an ARM architecture ARM client and a DSP server. DSPLINK can be used to implement a layer of software abstraction called a Remote procedure call RPC that allows a remote function on the DSP to appear as local function calls in the ARM application code. One processor sends messages to the other by writing the message into the pre determined address and then sending an interrupt to signal the other processor that a new message is available. 1. System Management BIOS

distinguish DMI In computing , the System Management BIOS SMBIOS specification defines data structure s and access methods in a BIOS which allows a user or application to store and retrieve information specifically about the computer in question. Circa 1999, it became part of the domain of the Distributed Management Task Force DMTF . Before this integration, SMBIOS functionality had the name DMIBIOS, since it interacted with Desktop Management Interface DMI . At approximately the same time Microsoft started to require that Original equipment manufacturer OEM s and BIOS vendors support the interface data set in order to have Microsoft product certification certification . 1. BIOS parameter block

In computing , the BIOS parameter block , often shortened to BPB , is a data structure in the Volume Boot Record describing the physical layout of a Computer data storage data storage Volume computing volume . On partitioned devices, such as hard disk drive hard disks , the BPB describes the volume partition, whereas, on unpartitioned devices, such as floppy disk s, it describes the entire medium. A basic BPB can appear and be used on any partition, including floppy disks where its presence is often necessary, however, certain filesystems also make use of it in describing basic filesystem structures. Filesystems making use of a BIOS parameter block include FAT12 , FAT16 , FAT32 , High Performance File System HPFS , and NTFS . Due to different types of fields and the amount of data they contain, the length of the BPB is different for FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS boot sectors. ref Microsoft. 1. E820

lowercase e820 e820 is shorthand to refer to the facility by which the BIOS of x86 based computer systems reports the memory map to the operating system or boot loader . It is accessed via the INT x86 instruction int 15h BIOS interrupt call call , by setting the tt AX tt register to value code E820 code in hexadecimal. It reports which memory address ranges are usable and which are reserved for use by the BIOS. BIOS e820 is often the first thing reported by a booting Linux kernel , and it can also be seen with the dmesg command. Sometimes the BIOS is buggy and incorrectly reports the reserved memory. This can cause memory testing software, like Memtest86 Memtest , to report errors. Multiple issues orphan March 2009 notability January 2010 wikify February 2012 Fake boot also known as a Double boot is a feature of the BIOS and may occur after changes to the BIOS. Changing some parameters in the BIOS will cause this issue, even for just setting a system as stock speeds, such as initializing the current CPU and memory clocks. When certain parameters, such as the ones before, from the BIOS are set, it will require a reboot. So if the computer didn t have any power and had just been plugged in these parameters will need to get implemented again, and since these parameters require a reboot, the computer will do a quick reset Fake Boot to implement these parameters that are set in the BIOS. ref http www.msi.com index.php?func faq2show&faq no 1869 MSI FAQ Why does this mainboard auto reboot once after power on? ref Even after the computer is turned off, these parameters won t need to be re implemented as long as power supply is still receiving power. A fake boot proceeds as such, the PC will power on for about 2 seconds, then off for about a second, then it will turn back on and display the Power on self test POST screen and continue to boot up normally.
