Franciszek Piper born 1941 is a Polish scholar, historian and author. Most of his work concerns the Jewish Holocaust , especially the history of the concentration camps at Auschwitz . Dr. Piper is credited as one of the historians who helped establish a more accurate number of victims of Auschwitz Birkenau death camps. According to his research, at least 1.1 million people perished at Auschwitz Birkenau, of whom about 1 million were Jewish. He is the author of several books and chair of the Historical Department at the Auschwitz State Museum. Life and career Olga Lengyel was a trained surgical assistant in Cluj Napoca Cluj , Romania , working in the hospital where her husband, Dr. Miklos Lengyel, was director. She was deported with her husband, parents and children to the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp, south west Poland , in the spring of 1944. She was the only member of the family to survive. She wrote about her experiences in the Holocaust in her autobiography, Five Chimneys , first published in 1947. After the war, she emigrated to the United States. According to the website of the Memorial Library, Olga founded the Memorial Library, located at 58 East 79th Street, which was chartered by the University of the State of New York. Olga died in 2001 at the age of 93, having battled and survived three separate bouts of cancer. In 2006, the Memorial Library began the Holocaust Educator Network, a national program for teachers interested in and committed to Holocaust education, especially in rural schools and small towns, in a partnership with the National Writing Project s Rural Sites Network. Orphan date March 2011 Tadeusz Wiejowski died 1941 was a Poles Polish shoemaker , and victim of Nazism . Tadeusz Wiejowski was imprisoned in Auschwitz on 14 June 1940, his number was 220. He escaped on 6 July 1940 with help from Polish civil workers employed in Auschwitz, Boles aw Bicz, Emil Kowalowski, Stanis aw Mrzyg d, J zef Muszy ski i J zef Patek. Four of them were members of Zwi zek Walki Zbrojnej , Polish military organization. Wiejowski received from them civil clothes, food and money and ran away by train. On 8 July 1940, Wiejowski s helpers were arrested and imprisoned in Auschwitz. They died there only Boles aw Bicz survived the war. Wiejowski spent a year in Ko aczyce , where he lived secretly with family. But at the end of 1941 he was again arrested and imprisoned in Jas o , where he was killed. Before her enlistment as an SS auxiliary, she worked at an office in Berlin . On January 31, 1941, Margot Dreschel arrived at Ravensbr ck to begin guard training. At first she was an Aufseherin , a low ranking female guard, at Ravensbr ck concentration camp Ravensbr ck a concentration camp primarily for internment of women . She trained under Oberaufseherin Senior Overseer Johanna Langefeld in 1941, and quickly became a Rapportf hrerin Report Overseer , a higher ranked guard.
