  1. Vision of Ezra

The Vision of Ezra is an ancient apocrypha l text, claiming to have been written by the biblical Ezra . The earliest surviving manuscripts, composed in Latin , date to the 11th Century AD, though textual peculiarities textual criticism strongly suggest that the text was originally written in Greek language Greek . Like the Greek Apocalypse of Ezra , the work is clearly Christian, and features several apostles being seen in heaven . However, the text is significantly shorter than the Apocalypse. The text has a strong dependence on 2 Esdras , an earlier Apocalypse, and portrays God as answering the prayer of Ezra to have courage by sending him seven angel s to show him heaven . In the Latin Vision of Esdras, the holy beloved prophet walks down three floors or 72 steps and is shown hell. When arriving in hell, a soul approaches Esdras and says your coming here has granted us some respite. From there he is taken to the fourth underworld where the sinners are shown hanging by their eyelashes. The righteous he sees in heaven are portrayed as passing through a vast scene of flames, and fire breathing lions, unharmed. The wicked are also seen to be in heaven, but are quickly ripped apart by vicious dogs, and burnt in the fire. Ezra is told by a nearby angel that the crimes of the wicked were that they had heterosexual sex on the Sabbath in Christianity sabbath . 1. Ezra Heywood

File EzraHeywood.jpg right thumb Ezra Heywood 1829 1893 was a 19th century North American Individualist anarchism individualist anarchist , slavery abolitionist , and feminist . Philosophy Heywood saw what he believed to be a disproportionate concentration of capital in the hands of a few as the result of a selective extension of government backed privileges to certain individuals and organizations. He believed that there should be no profit in rent of buildings. He did not oppose rent, but believed that if the building was fully paid for that it was improper to charge more than what is necessary for transfer costs, insurance, and repair of deterioration that occurs during the occupation by the tenant. He even asserted that it may be incumbent on the owner of the building to pay rent to the tenant if the tenant keeps his residency in such a condition that saved it from deterioration if it were otherwise unoccupied. Heywood believed that title to unused land was a great evil. Activism Heywood s philosophy was instrumental in furthering individualist anarchist ideas through his extensive pamphleteering and reprinting of works of Josiah Warren , author of True Civilization 1869 , and William B. Ezra Abbot April 28, 1819, Jackson, Maine &ndash March 21, 1884, Cambridge, Massachusetts was an United States American biblical scholar. ref Chambers Biographical Dictionary , ISBN 0 550 18022 2, page 2 ref Life and writings He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1840. In 1847, at the request of Prof. Andrews Norton , he went to Cambridge, where he was principal of a public school until 1856. He was assistant librarian of Harvard University from 1856 to 1872, and planned and perfected an alphabetical card catalog, combining many of the advantages of the ordinary dictionary catalogs with the grouping of the minor topics under more general heads, which is characteristic of a systematic catalogue. From 1872 until his death he was Bussey Professor of New Testament Criticism and Interpretation in the Harvard Divinity School . Abbot s studies were chiefly in Oriental languages and textual criticism of the New Testament, though his work as a bibliographer showed such results as the exhaustive list of writings 5300 in all on the doctrine of the future life, appended to W. R. Alger s History of the Doctrine of a Future Life, as it has prevailed in all Nations and Ages 1862 , and published separately ...
