Bill Dalton s Indonesia Handbook , published by Moon Publications in California, was the main English language tourist guide book for the whole of Indonesia between the 1970s and the 1990s. History The book originated in 1973 as a typewritten publication, A Traveler s Notes Indonesia , printed by Dalton when he was travelling in Australia. This led Dalton to form his company, Moon Publications, when he returned to California, and expand and publish his Travel Notes as a full book, the Indonesia Handbook. The earlier editions in the late 1970s were much smaller than the later editions. During the Suharto era the guide book was at times banned. By the time of the last edition, published in 1995, the book was 1,380 pages long. Moon expanded its range to publish a large number of travel handbooks, following the successful format of the Indonesia Handbook, to cover other areas, for example the South Pacific Handbook ref Moon Handbooks South Pacific 2005 ISBN 978 1566914116 ref by David Stanley. ref http www.moon.com author q a green travel talk david stanley Moon Travel Guides website Green Travel Talk with David Stanley ref Dalton sold his interest in Moon Publications in 1999, and the new owners dropped the title. Image Parson sHandbook.jpg thumb The dust jacket cover of 13th revised edition of The Parson s Handbook by Percy Dearmer. This edition was heavily revised and rewritten by Cyril Pocknee. The Parson s Handbook is a book by Percy Dearmer , first published in 1899, that was fundamental to the development of liturgy in the Church of England and throughout the Anglican Communion . The 19th century Oxford Movement brought the High Church within the Church of England into a place of confident leadership of the mainstream of the church. By the end of that century, many were struggling to find suitable forms of worship that were at once obedient to the letter of the Book of Common Prayer if not its intention and reflected the desire to a return to more Catholic forms of ritual and ceremonial. Some in the church took on board much of the ritual of the Tridentine Mass . Dearmer and other members of the Alcuin Club decried this wholesale adaptation of Italianate forms, and they campaigned for a revived English Catholicism that was rooted in pre English Reformation Reformation ritual, especially in the Sarum Use something they termed the Anglican Use or English Use . The Parson s Handbook is Dearmer s brotherly advice to fellow churchmen about the correct way to conduct proper and fitting English worship. Dearmer s writing style is strong he disparages customs he finds quaint or misguided, and makes good use of his subtle wit. Orphan date June 2008 The Hacker s Handbook is a non fiction book from the 1980s effectively explaining how computer systems of the period were hacked. It contains candid and personal comments from the book s British author, Hugo Cornwall, a pseudonym of Peter Sommer who is now a Research Fellow in Information Systems Security at the London School of Economics and frequently appears in the UK courts as an expert on digital evidence and computer forensics as well as media pundit and author on information security topics. One popular aspect of the book is the salacious printouts of actual hacking attempts although confidential details, such as passwords, are blacked out . The first edition, which is the version most easily available for download, was published in 1985 and the last of four editions edited by Steve Gold appeared in 1989. In 1990 the Parliament of the United Kingdom UK Parliament passed the Computer Misuse Act publication of additional editions would likely have been considered an incitement to commit an offence under that Act. The left handed Scout handshake is a formal way of greeting other Scouts of both genders used by members of Scouting Scout and Guide organizations around the world when greeting other Scouts. The handshake is made with the hand nearest the heart and is offered as a token of friendship. In most situations, the handshake is made firmly, without interlocking fingers, and many organizations only use this handshake when both people are in uniform. There are some variations of the handshake between national Scouting organizations and also within some program sections. The 1935 BoyScoutHandbook says that By agreement of the Scout Leaders throughout the world, Boy Scouts greet Brother Scouts with a warm left hand clasp. All World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts members share the left handshake, and when meeting other Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, it may be used in conjunction with the Scout sign Girl Scout sign done with the right hand. Meaning of the left hand Various sources have attributed the origin of the handshake, as an ancient sign of bravery and respect, to Lord Baden Powell s encounter after battle with Prempeh I , or to earlier published works by Ernest Thompson Seton .
