  1. Breaching experiment

In the field of social psychology , a breaching experiment is an experiment that seeks to examine people s reactions to violations of commonly accepted social rules or Norm sociology norms . Breaching experiments are most commonly associated with ethnomethodology , and in particular the work of Harold Garfinkel . The conduct of a breaching experiment is sometimes referred to as Garfinkeling . Examples Erving Goffman s seminal study Behavior in Public Places gives some classic examples of behavioral norms, such as it is inconsiderate to litter &ndash put your garbage in the trash can . A breaching experiment studies people s reaction to an experimenter who breaks this kind of small, everyday rule. The strength of the reaction is taken as an indication of the strength of the rule. The inexplicable do gooder Social science researcher Earl R. Babbie writes that it is a social rule that ordinary citizens should not pick up garbage from the street, or mend street signs, or otherwise fix problems. ref Babbie, Earl. 2001. A famous breaching experiment was conducted on the New York City subway in the 1970s, when experimenters boarded crowded trains and asked able bodied but seated riders, with no explanation, to give up their seats. Reportedly, the experimenters themselves were deeply troubled by being involved in such a seemingly minor violation of a social norm. 1. Python Minefield Breaching System

The Python Minefield Breaching System is used by the British Army to clear minefield s. It replaces the Giant Viper , and has the ability to clear a safe lane in minefields 180 200m long and 7.3 m wide through which vehicles can pass. The system works by firing a single rocket from a launcher mounted on a 136 kilogramme trailer which has to be towed to the edge of the mined area. Attached to the rocket motor 250  mm L9 53  kg is a 228 m long hose packed with 1455  kg of pe6 al explosive. After the hose lands on the ground it detonates and destroys over 90 of mines along its entire length. The 10 that are not destroyed are simply pushed aside to safety. It can be used in tandem to defeat double impulse mines or mines of greater depth. For the security key, see Key lock Master key master key . The Masterkey or Remington 870 MCS M odule C ombat S hotgun is a door breaching shotgun system manufactured by Knight s Armament Company . The Masterkey project was initiated during the 1980s to provide assault rifle s with a potent built in door breaching tool. Individual soldiers were often forced to carry a breaching shotgun in addition to their standard issue rifle, but the Masterkey removes this need. The system consists of a Remington 870 Gauge bore diameter 12 gauge pump action shotgun mounted on a M16 Rifle M16 or M4 Carbine M4 assault rifle in an underbarrel configuration, much like the M203 grenade launcher M203 grenade launcher. It has a 3 round internal magazine and can carry a fourth round in the chamber. The shotgun cannot be operated independently because it has no grip behind the trigger when firing the Masterkey, the M16 s magazine must be used as a makeshift pistol grip. Independent stocks and grips for the 870 are available for use, but they are incompatible with the M16 barrel mount. KAC makes an independent stock for the Masterkey that also can be used with the M203 grenade launcher. The Masterkey inspired the M26 Modular Accessory Shotgun System , an attachable shotgun in use with the United States Army . Image MS812 3.gif thumb A soldier loading the hook. Image Kaginawa.JPG thumb Antique Japanese iron Kaginawa climbing hook. A grappling hook is an anchor with multiple hooks claws , flukes , attached to a rope it is thrown, dropped, sunk, projected, or fastened directly by hand to where at least one hook may catch and hold. Generally, grappling hooks are used to temporarily secure one end of a rope. They may also be used to dredge for submerged objects. Historically, grappling hooks were used in naval warfare to catch ship rigging so that it could be boarded. A common design has a central shaft with a hole eye at the shaft base to attach the rope, and three equally spaced hooks at the end, arranged that at least one is likely to catch on some protuberance of the target. Some modern designs feature folding hooks to resist unwanted attachment. Most grappling hooks are thrown by hand, but some used in rescue work are propelled by compressed air e.g., the Plumett AL 52 , mortar or a rocket. Grappling hooks are used by combat engineer s breaching tactical obstacles. The grappling hook is launched in front of an obstacle and dragged backwards to detonate trip wire fused land mines, and can be hooked on wire obstacles and pulled to set off booby traps on the wire. Two tools are available for this purpose the rifle launched grapnel, a single use grappling hook placed on the end of an M4 Carbine M4 M16 rifle , or the crossbow launched version. ref http www.saa intl.com products crossbow.html SAA Crossbow Launched Grapnel Hook ref A grapple can clear up to 99 percent of the trip wires in a single pass. ref name FM3 34x2 Field Manual 3 34.2 Combined Arms Breaching Operations. 31 August 2000. 1. Risk of loss

Contract law Risk of loss is a term used in the law of contract s to determine which party should bear the burden of risk for damage occurring to goods after the sale has been completed, but before delivery has occurred. Such considerations generally come into play after the contract is formed but before buyer receives goods, something bad happens. Under the Uniform Commercial Code UCC , there are four risk of loss rules, in order of application Agreement the agreement of the parties controls Breach the breaching party is liable for any uninsured loss even though breach is unrelated to the problem. Hence, if the breach is the time of delivery, and the goods show up broken, then the breaching rule applies risk of loss on the seller. Delivery by common carrier other than by seller. Risk of loss shifts from seller to buyer at the time that seller completes its delivery obligations If it is a destination contract FOB shipping FOB buyer s city , then risk of loss is on the seller. If it is a delivery contract standard, or FOB seller s city , then the risk of loss is on the buyer. If the seller is a merchant, then the risk of loss shifts to the buyer upon buyer s receipt of the goods. If the buyer never takes possession, then the seller still has the risk of loss. ref Uniform Commercial Code 2 509 3 ref In bankruptcy law , the risk of loss rule under a contract can be abrogated by a Collateral finance secured interest . ref In re H.S.A., II, Inc.
