In law, the term breakingbulk means taking anything out of a package or parcel or in any way destroying its entirety. It was thus important in connection with the subject of bailment , involving as it did the curious distinction that where a bailee received possession of goods in a box or package, and then sold them as a whole, he was guilty only of a breach of trust, but if he broke bulk or caused a separation of the goods, and sold a part or all, he was guilty of felony . This distinction was abolished by the Larceny Act 1861 , which enacted that whoever, being a bailee of any chattel , money or valuable security, should fraudulently take or convert the same to his own use, or the use of any person other than the owner, although he should not break bulk or otherwise determine the bailment, should be guilty of larceny s. 3 . Breakingbulk may be used for bulk material ordered broken up in part shipment and shipped to location in different cargo. Bulk mail broadly refers to mail that is mailed and processed in bulk at reduced rates. The term does not denotation denote any particular purpose for the mail but in general usage is synonymous with junk mail . For example, the United States Postal Service USPS defines bulk mail broadly as quantities of mail prepared for mailing at reduced postage rates. The preparation includes presorting and placing into containers by ZIP code . The containers, along with a manifest, are taken to an area in a post office called a bulk mail entry unit. Orphan date February 2009 For RFID tags, bulk reading is the extension of single reading to a set of tags. A group of objects, all of them RFID tagged, shall be read completely from one single reader position in timely coincidence. Limitations Bulk reading is a possible use of High frequency HF ISO 18000 3 , UHF ISO 18000 6 and SHF ISO 18000 4 RFID tags. However, as RFID communications address RFID tags strictly sequentially, the time needed for bulk reading grows linearly with the number of labels to be read. This means it takes twice as long to read twice as many labels. Due to collision effects, the time required is in fact greater. Principle A bulk of RFID tags has to be illuminated by the interrogating signal just like a single tag. This is not a challenge concerning energy, but with respect to visibility, especially in electromagnetic fields and using UHF or SHF dipole antennas. In case any of the tags are shielded by other tags, they might not be sufficiently illuminated to return a sufficient response. The response conditions for inductively coupled High frequency HF RFID tags and coil antennas in magnetic fields with UHF RFID tags and NFC communications antennas also in magnetic fields appear better than for UHF or SHF dipole fields, but then distance limits apply and may prevent success. Operational advantage Under operational conditions, bulk reading is no technology of secure operation. Bulk reading can be a rough guide for logistics decisions. But due to a high proportion of reading failures, it is not yet suitable for inventory management. However, when a single RFID tag might be seen as not guaranteeing a proper read, a bunch of RFID tags, where at least one will respond, may be a safer approach for detecting a known grouping of objects. In this respect, bulk reading is a Fuzzy mathematics fuzzy method for process support. From the perspective of cost and effect, bulk reading is not reported as an economized approach to secure process control in logistics ... more details

about the biological process use in mechanics fluid dynamics In cell biology , bulk flow is the process by which protein s without a sorting signal travel to and from different cellular compartments. Proteins often have sorting signals, either transport signal s or retention signal s, specifying if a protein will translocate to another compartment within the cell or is retained in the current, membrane bound, compartment in which it is already located respectively. For instance, proteins with the KDEL sorting signal are specified to return to the endoplasmic reticulum from the Golgi apparatus Golgi see vesicular transport . However, proteins lacking a sorting signal will increase in concentration in a specific compartment until it reaches bulk concentration in the donor compartment. At this point, it enters budding vesicles and is transported to an acceptor compartment. It is thus this process which is termed bulk flow. It is thought that cargo travels through the Golgi cisternae from cis to trans Golgi via bulk flow. References 1. Rothman J.E. and Weiland F.T. Protein sorting by transport vesicles. unsourced date April 2009 Bulk micromachining is a process used to produce micromachinery or microelectromechanical systems MEMS . Unlike surface micromachining , which uses a succession of thin film deposition and selective etching, bulk micromachining defines structures by selectively etching inside a substrate. Whereas surface micromachining creates structures on top of a substrate, bulk micromachining produces structures inside a substrate. Usually, silicon Wafer electronics wafer s are used as substrates for bulk micromachining, as they can be anisotropic ally wet etched, forming highly regular structures. Wet etching typically uses alkaline liquid solvent s, such as potassium hydroxide KOH or tetramethylammonium hydroxide TMAH to dissolve silicon which has been left exposed by the photolithography masking step. These alkali solvents dissolve the silicon in a highly anisotropic way, with some crystallographic orientations dissolving up to 1000 times faster than others. Such an approach is often used with very specific crystallographic orientations in the raw silicon to produce V shaped grooves. The surface of these grooves can be atomically smooth if the etch is carried out correctly, and the dimensions and angles can be precisely defined. Bulk micromachining starts with a silicon wafer or other substrates which is selectively etched, using photolithography to transfer a pattern from a mask to the surface. Like surface micromachining, bulk micromachining can be performed with wet or dry etches, although the most common etch in silicon is the anisotropic wet etch. This etch takes advantage of the fact that silicon has a crystal structure, which means its atoms are all arranged periodically in lines and planes. Unreferenced date February 2009 Bulk bins are a way of selling consumer goods consumables by weight . The product is stored in bins in a section of the retail floor. A customer can measure out an amount of product into a plastic bag, to be later weighed at the point of sale . The product is usually less expensive per unit compared to pre packaged items. The customer is able to choose exactly how much product they want and will go home with less packaging . Products compatible with bulk bin selling are Nail fastener Nails Cereal Grains Spices Candy Coffee Powdered or granulated items Traditional bulk bins were typically wooden barrels, or burlap sacks the food products came in, and from which the customer would shop. These traditional methods of dispensing were cheap, and did not protect the food products from open air environments which allowed the accelerated spoilage of food, and created the potential for outside contaminants to affect the food. Today, Bulk bins are made of polycarbonate , or BPA free resins which display the food product, and provide an airtight, hygenic system for dispensing foods. Perishable or bulky items usually are not sold in this way. Category Retailing Category Food retailing Retailing stub ... more details
