IAST Gop la t pan Upanishad is an Upanishad, associated with the Atharvaveda . It figures in the Muktika canon of 108 Upanishads as number 95 . Origins As with most of the late Upanishads, the Gop la t pan is said to be attached to the Atharva veda . In the Muktik , the distribution of the Upanishads between the g, ukla yajus, K a yajus, S ma and Atharvan is rather complicated. Nevertheless, all four T pin Upanishads N si ha , R ma , Tripur and Gop la are also listed there as belonging to the Atharvaveda . Of the 108 Upanishads commented on by Upanishad Brahmayogin , eight are Sakta kta , fifteen Shaiva aiva , and fourteen Vaishnava Vai ava . The Vaishnava Upanishads are IAST K opani ad , Mah n r ya a , R ma t pan P rva and Uttara , N si ha t pan P rva and Uttara , and Gop la t pan P rva and Uttara , tma bodha , N r ya a , R ma rahasya , V sudeva , Hayagr va , Kali santarana , Garu a and Dattatreya . Although the IAST N si ha t pan appears to be one of the earliest of the Vaishnava Upanishads, neither it nor any of the others has achieved the kind of special status amongst later Vai ava schools that the Gop la t pan has. Dating the t pan ya Upanishads There are many problems in trying to date the Gop la t pan , as none of the reference points that we have are very solid. The Mutiko Muktikopani ad , which lists Gop la t pan as one of the 108 Upanishads, is itself undated and is thus not of much help. The Gaudiya Vaishnavas also quote the Gautam ya tantra at the beginning of the Gop la t pan in order to establish that this Upanishad is rute ira , the topmost text of the Shruti literature, a view that can be disputed. The quote does indeed seem to be a reference ... Uttara t pan Upanishad .
