    The West Indian Brigade was a British Army unit during the Great War . In 1915, a second West Indies regiment was formed from Caribbean volunteers who made their way to United Kingdom Britain . Initially, these volunteers were drafted into a variety of units within the British Army, but in 1915 it was decided to group them together into a single regiment, named the British West Indies Regiment . Composition Initially it was made up of men from British Guiana A Company Trinidad B Company Trinidad and Saint Vincent island St Vincent C Company Grenada and Barbados D Company High wastage led to further drafts from Jamaica , British Honduras and Barbados before the regiment was able to begin training. The regiment totalled twelve battalions, and engaged in a number of roles and theatres. The regiment was finally disbanded in 1921.     Unreferenced date October 2008 The Democratic Labour Party was one of the two Federal parties in the short lived West Indies Federation . The party was organised by Sir Alexander Bustamante to counter the West Indies Federal Labour Party led by his cousin Norman Manley . It was founded in May 1957 and was originally composed of parties from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia a number of individuals since unlike the WIFLP, the DLP admitted both parties and individuals . Bustamante was unanimously elected as leader of the party, while Ashford Sinanan Trinidad , Victor Bryan Trinidad and Ebenezer Joshua St. Vincent were chosen as first, second and third deputy leaders, respectively. Other members of the executive included Donald Sangster , Mrs. Rose Leon , Morris Cargill all from Jamaica and Bhadase Maraj Trinidad .
