The brick building was built in about 1910 and features an arcade of round arch windows on the East and South facades. The hotel was the premiere hotel in Westville when the town was railway stop. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The hotel has been greatly altered from its original form, including the southeast breezeway having been bricked off and a room created and the second story bay windows covered in aluminum siding. The owner as of 2006 is a Westville man named Bud Rose. The hotel had been used as apartment multi unit housing until 2004, when Mr. Rose converted the entire downstairs into a personal Dwelling residence . The upstairs twenty one rooms are now vacant.     Leroy Buffington was an architect from Minnesota who specialized in designing hotels, public and commercial buildings, churches, and residences. He was born on September 22, 1847, in Cincinnati, Ohio . He studied architecture and engineering at the University of Cincinnati and graduated in 1869. He moved to St. Paul, Minnesota , becoming a partner of Abraham Radcliffe , and worked on the remodeling of the Minnesota State Capitol building. In 1881, he claimed to have thought up the idea of building skyscrapers by using load bearing iron frames. He applied for a patent in November 1887 and received it in May 1888. However, he was mostly unsuccessful in collecting royalties from his patent, even though many subsequent builders used his method. The opening Prologue O Love the interest itself in thoughtless heaven is followed by short and long poems including Hearing of harvests , O what is that sound , Out on the lawn , Brothers who when the sirens roar , Love had him fast , A shilling life , Our hunting fathers , and others, ending with an Epilogue Certainly our city . The title of Auden s typescript was Thirty One Poems . Auden s UK publisher Faber & Faber asked him to supply a better title, but he was traveling in Iceland and inaccessible, so the publisher titled the book Look, Stranger Auden disliked the title and asked his American publisher Random House to title the book On This Island .
