    Clement Pitt Benning 1785 &ndash May 30, 1865 was a merchant, magistrate and political figure in Colony of Newfoundland Newfoundland . He represented Burin, Newfoundland and Labrador Burin in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1842 to 1848 and from 1852 to 1859 as a Liberal. He was probably born in Kingdom of Great Britain Great Britain and came to Placentia Bay in 1804 as an agent for William Spurrier of Poole . When Spurrier s firm failed in 1829, Benning went into business on his own. He was also employed as a building contractor and was a partner in a ferry between Burin, Newfoundland and Labrador Burin and Placentia, Newfoundland and Labrador Placentia . In 1831, he was named conservator of the peace for Burin and Placentia. In 1859, he was named a stipendiary magistrate for Lamaline, Newfoundland and Labrador Lamaline .     William Hooper 1787 &ndash October 1, 1864 was an England English born merchant and political figure in Colony of Newfoundland Newfoundland . He represented Burin, Newfoundland and Labrador Burin the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1832 to 1836. Hooper was born in Poole , Dorset and came to Newfoundland around 1810. He operated a business in Burin, Newfoundland and Labrador Burin where he settled and a general store at Mortier on Placentia Bay in partnership with William Harrison. His attendance in the assembly was spotty and Hooper did not seek reelection. In 1838, he was named a justice of the peace for the Southern district. Hooper died at Burin in 1864.     John T. Cheeseman 1892 &ndash February 22, 1968 was a businessman and politician in Newfoundland and Labrador Newfoundland . He represented Burin, Newfoundland and Labrador Burin from 1919 to 1923, Burgeo LaPoile from 1956 to 1962 and Hermitage electoral district Hermitage from 1962 to 1966. He was born in Port au Bras, Newfoundland and Labrador Port au Bras and was educated there and at Bishop Feild College . Cheeseman worked for a time in his father s fishery business, then became manager of the Burin Import and Export Company and finally opened his own business around 1930. He was defeated when he ran for reelection in 1923. Cheeseman was appointed Chief Inspector of Fisheries and then Chief Fisheries Officer for Newfoundland. He later served in the Newfoundland Executive Council as Minister of Fisheries and Co Operatives and then as Minister of Provincial Affairs. He retired from the assembly in 1966. A Newfoundland provincial park, John T. Cheeseman Provincial Park, was named in his honour.
