The magazine started as a 16 page quarterly newsletter named BDS C Users Group , and its target was users of Leor Zolman s BDS C compiler. Robert Ward was the volunteer coordinator of the C Users Group, which had some 150 members. The first issue of BDS C Users s Group was published on June 15, 1981. In December 1982, the name was changed to C User s Group Newsletter . In 1984 David Fiedler started another journal, The C Journal . In 1987 1988, the C User s Group Newsletter and The C Journal merged into one journal named C Users Journal . It was published eight times a year, and it had 6800 subscribers and 3000 newsstand readers. In July 1994, the name was changed to CC Users Journal . In November 2001, the CC Users Journal celebrated its 20th anniversary. It was published monthly at the time, had more than 43,000 readers worldwide, and contained a bimonthly Java supplement called Java Solutions . It is the only roll that uses the same principles of technique that are used in bracing and hand rolling. The C to C roll came about in the early 1970s, when a whitewater kayaker by the name of Mick Mouse began working with the C 1 roll,experimenting with the technique of using the same efficient body mechanics and sweeping the paddle out to the side in mid air prior to hip snapping the boat up right. Breaking from earlier rolls, the C to C roll placed an emphasis on keeping the paddle blade on the surface of the water during the sweep portion of the roll. This was achieved by bending the head and torso up to the surface of the water as the paddle swept out to perpendicular. Background The kayak roll was used by the Eskimos of the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. Most likely the roll practiced was something like the classic extended paddle roll or Potawatomi Roll . He was born in the Chekiang Province, Republic of China in 1935. After his family moved to Taiwan, he began studying t ai chi ch uan under the tutelage of Prof. Cheng Man ch ing Cheng Man Ch ing who was a childhood friend of William C. C. Chen s father.
