It is the only roll that uses the same principles of technique that are used in bracing and hand rolling. The C to C roll came about in the early 1970s, when a whitewater kayaker by the name of Mick Mouse began working with the C 1 roll,experimenting with the technique of using the same efficient body mechanics and sweeping the paddle out to the side in mid air prior to hip snapping the boat up right. Breaking from earlier rolls, the C to C roll placed an emphasis on keeping the paddle blade on the surface of the water during the sweep portion of the roll. This was achieved by bending the head and torso up to the surface of the water as the paddle swept out to perpendicular. Joel C. C. Winch December 26, 1835 &ndash December 7, 1880 was a United States federal judge for a short term of service. Born in Northfield, Vermont was a teacher there and read law in 1858. He was in private practice in Corsicana, Texas from 1859 to 1864, and then in Houston, Texas . During that time, he served as county attorney for Harris County, Texas and as a district attorney for the State of Texas, in Austin, Texas . He was a U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas from 1869 to 1870. Winch was a federal judge. On October 11, 1870, Winch received a recess appointment from President Ulysses Grant to a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas vacated by John C. Watrous . Formally nominated on December 15, 1870 Winch was not confirmed by the United States Senate , and his service was terminated on March 3, 1871.
