Infobox company company name Cabot, Cabot & Forbes location Boston Boston, MA , USA industry http www.webcrg.info Real Estate revenue Unknown homepage http www.ccfne.com www.ccfne.com Introduction Cabot, Cabot & Forbes is one of the oldest real estate firms in the nation, having developed more than 100 million square feet of commercial space throughout the United States since 1904. Driven by a commitment to design excellence and innovation, the company today is continuing this brand of forward thinking with a primary focus in smart growth, transit oriented, mixed use developments in the greater Boston area. History CC&F was founded in Boston in 1897 by two members of Boston s Cabot family and F. Murray Forbes, Sr. The firm s initial mandate was the management of the real estate assets of the Cabot and Forbes families, and activities were mainly confined to the immediate Boston area. It was not until the early 1950s that CC&F, under the leadership of Alexander C. Forbes, Jr. and Gerald W. Blakely Jr., entered into the national real estate development business. An early landmark venture was the development of New England Industrial Center on 300 acres in Needham, Massachusetts, which at the time, was the largest master planned industrial project in the country. CC&F was both the pioneer and premier developer of office parks along 128 and was integrally involved in both the creation of suburban commercial zoning, the region s sprawling railroad maps, and even the route of Boston s Route 128 corridor. Landmark Developments In 1966, CC&F began its involvement in more urban development activity with a joint venture with Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the four building, 625,000 square foot Technology Square in Cambridge. This project led to the development of a series of significant downtown Boston high rise office buildings, which made CC&F one of the few independent developers to contribute as many buildings to the Boston skyline. Holtzer Cabot was a Boston , Massachusetts MA company founded in 1875. They specialized in small Electric motor motors , fire alarm system s, telegraph related products, and various other electric devices. The company closed in 1972. File Holtzercabotpull.JPG thumb 200px right Antique Holtzer Cabot coded fire alarm pull station . History Charles Holzter founded the company as Holtzer Co. and began manufacturing simple electrical devices such as doorbells and electric igniters. In 1880, Seth W. Fuller partnered with Holzter, and the company became known as Seth W. Fuller & Holtzer , and later as Fuller, Holtzer & Company . George E. Cabot joined the business, and Fuller left in 1889. The company then changed its name to Holtzer Cabot , which remained their name until their closing. In 1891, the company built an electric car that sat four people and moved approximately 16 MPH. It was the first to feature a steering wheel, and is known as the first successful electric vehicle in America, though other unsuccessful prototypes had been built before. Around the turn of the 19th to 20th century, the company branched out to create various telephone telegraph related products, clocks, and fire alarm systems. They invented the first shunt type fire alarm system, where a local alarm pulled in a building would also trigger the nearest municipal street fire alarm box . Most of their fire alarm systems were installed in hospitals, factories, and institutions. In 1927, Charles Holtzer died. Throughout World War II , the company branched out even more, but struggled to retain business.
