The International Civil Rights Walk of Fame was created in 2004 and is located at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site in Atlanta . It consists of a walkable promenade that showcases actual footstep impressions of those honored, marked in granite and bronze. According to the National Park Service , which runs the historic site, the Walk of Fame was created to to give recognition to those courageous soldiers of justice who sacrificed and struggled to make equality a reality for all. Another motivation was to enhance the historic value of the area, enrich its cultural heritage, and make the site a better tourist attraction. The Walk of Fame is the brainchild of Xernona Clayton Brady Xernona Clayton , founder and executive producer of the Trumpet Awards and a civil rights figure in her own right. Clayton said, This is a lasting memorial to those whose contributions were testaments to the fact that human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. This historic site will serve as a symbol of pride and a beacon of hope for all future generations. The Walk of Game was a year round attraction in the United States honoring the icons and pioneers of the video game industry , and was located inside Metreon , an entertainment shopping center in San Francisco , California . It noted the most influential game characters of that year. Gamers worldwide cast their votes through paper ballots and online submissions at the Walk of Game website during a one month voting period. Ballots were held during October in the years 2005 and 2006. No additional ballots have been opened since as such, the practice appears to have been discontinued.
