Biography Hollitzer was born and raised in Deutsch Altenburg. His family had a construction business. His father, Karl Hollitzer, was the local judge from 1876 until 1848 and from 1848 until 1884 he was elected mayor of Bad Deutsch Altenburg . As owner of a stone pit he made a fortune with contracts from the time the Danube was regulated. The young Carl Leopold studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . From 1906 on, he starred as a singer in the first Viennese cabaret stages, the cabaret Nachtlicht and the Cabaret Fledermaus . His second wife Gertrude Barrison was also a singer and they appeared many times together on the stage of the Cabaret Fledermaus. He founded the artist association Jungbund and became its president. Otto Singer July 26, 1833 &ndash January 3, 1894 was a German musician also active in the USA. Singer was born in Wilthen Sora , Saxony . He was educated in Dresden , and later in Leipzig until 1865, and after a short residence in Weimar with Franz Liszt went to New York in 1867. In 1873 he went to Cincinnati as assistant musical director, under Theodore Thomas, of the first May Musical Festival, in that year. He composed the cantata The Pilgrim Fathers for the festival of 1876, and Festival Ode for the opening of the music hall in 1878. He remained with the Cincinnati College of Music until 1892, when he returned to New York, where he died. He was an earnest and aggressive disciple of Liszt and Richard Wagner both in his compositions and piano performances. George John Singer 1786 1817 was an English early pioneer of electrical research, noted for his publications and for lectures delivered privately and at the Russell Institution . Biography George John Singer was son of ThomasSinger, and younger brother of Samuel Weller Singer . In early life he was engaged in his mother s business of artificial flower making. Every spare moment, however, he devoted to scientific study, more particularly to the investigation of electricity and electromagnetism , then little known. He made almost the whole of his apparatus himself, and introduced several improvements, inventing, among other things, the gold leaf electrometer . He built, almost unassisted, a large room at the back of his mother s house in Prince s Street, Cavendish Square , where he gave courses of lectures on electricity and kindred subjects.
