His Calendar of saints feast day is March 5. The saint is mainly known as the tutor and fosterer of his greater namesake, Saint Carthage of Lismore, also known as Mochuda Saint Mochuda . Carthage was of the E ganachta E ganacht Chaisil and son, or, more probably, grandson of engus mac Nad Fro ch whom Saint Patrick baptized. He was himself a disciple of Ciaran of Saighir who had condemned him to a condign penance for a sin of the flesh committed in his younger days. He was secretary of state of the Western Roman Empire under Roman Emperor Honorius emperor Honorius and a close friend of Augustine of Hippo , as well as a correspondent of Jerome Saint Jerome s. Saint Augustine dedicated the first books of his landmark City of God book The City of God to Marcellinus in 413. In 409, Marcellinus granted the right to public worship to the Donatism Donatists , an heresy heretical group.
