Unreferenced date November 2009 Shockresistant is a common mark stamped on the back of wrist watch es to indicate how well a watch copes with shocks. ISO 1413 shockresistant standard The International Organization for Standardization issued a standard for shockresistant watches, which many countries have adopted. ISO 1413 Horology Shockresistant watches specifies the minimum requirements and describes the corresponding method of test. It is intended to allow homologation tests rather than the individual control of all watches of a production batch. It is based on the simulation of the shock received by a watch on falling accidentally from a height of 1 m on to a horizontal hardwood surface. In practice shock resistance is generally tested by applying two shocks one on the 9 o clock side, and one to the crystal and perpendicular to the face . The shock is usually delivered by a hard plastic hammer mounted as a pendulum, so as to deliver a measured amount of energy, specifically, a 3  kg hammer with an impact velocity of 4.43 m s. The watch must keep its accuracy to 60 seconds day as measured before the test. Usage Since their appearance, shockresistant watches have found a wide application in different activities, especially where people deal with shocks to their wrists. Today even divers watches according to ISO 6425 must correspond not only with such criteria as WaterResistant mark water resistance , luminosity , magnetic resistance and strap solidity, but also shock resistance. Multiple issues orphan November 2006 refimprove January 2012 one source January 2012 copy edit January 2012 A resistant reading is a reading within a text which moves beyond the dominant cultural beliefs to challenge prevailing views. Reading a text as it was not meant to be read in fact reading the text against itself. Textual example By way of illustration, consider Andrew Marvell s poem To His Coy Mistress . A resistant reading may develop from the alternative reading, pointing out how The representation arts representation of gender in the poem furthers the notion of gender as binary opposition s e.g. male is active, female is passive male is powerful, female is marginalized and, as such, will be read by readers who share feminist views of the world as poo gender inequality and discrimination against women. For example, Marvell s representation of heterosexuality in the poem may be read as being exploitative, based as it is on the persona psychologically terrorizing the woman. Marvell depicts his persona as attempting to have the woman submit as a result of the fear he seeks to instill within her Marvell s vivid and confronting image ry is most significant and not accidental blockquote Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound My echoing song then worms shall try That long preserved virginity ... blockquote Modern readers must ask themselves whether this is a view of social relations between men and women that they are willing to accept as appropriate. Importance Resistant reading is an important element of our critical and interpretive repertoire. It is worth considering whether diegetic border crossing always strengthens the potential for resistant reading as might seem intuitively likely, given that readers are moving in and out of the story , or whether on some occasions it might serve the reverse effect. ref Journal of Literacy Research, Spring 2003 by Mackey, Margaret ref See also Judith Fetterley The Resisting Reader 1977 , by Judith Fetterley References refe ... more details

Totally drug resistant tuberculosis TDR TB is a generic term for tuberculosis strains that are resistant to a wider range of drugs than strains classified as Extensively drug resistant tuberculosis . TDR TB has been identified in three countries India, Iran, and Italy. The emergence of TDR TB has been documented in four major publications ref Migliori GB, De Iaco G, Besozzi G, Centis R, Cirillo DM. First tuberculosis cases in Italy resistant to all tested drugs. Euro Surveill. 2007 12 20 pii 3194. TDR TB has resulted from further mutations within the bacterial genome to confer resistance, beyond those seen in XDR and MDR TB. Development of resistance is associated with poor management of cases. Drug resistance testing occurs in only 5 of TB cases worldwide. Without testing to determine drug resistance profiles, MDR or XDR TB patients may develop resistance to additional drugs. ref name Rowland2012 TDR TB is relatively poorly documented, as many countries don t test patient samples against a broad enough range of drugs to diagnose such a comprehensive array of resistance. The United Nations Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases has set up a TDR Tuberculosis Specimen Bank to archive specimens of TDR TB. ref cite pmid 20937188 ref .
