The Avon Descent is an annual, two day, white water event involving both paddle craft kayak s, surf skis and small motor boats. It runs from Northam, Western Australia Northam to Perth, Western Australia along the Avon River Western Australia Avon and Swan River Western Australia Swan River s, and is held in August of every year. Sponsors and commercial support regularly changes, sometimes annually. It is the only event in the world where power craft race paddle craft. The course has Grade 2 4 white water rapids and its 133 gruelling kilometres tests the endurance of the fittest athlete. The first Avon Descent was held in 1973. There has been an increase in the prize pool from 2007 of 10,000 providing an extra 6,000 for 1st, 3,000 for 2nd and 1,000 for 3rd fastest single paddle craft. In 2006 757 competitors started the event in 459 craft. The top class in the powerboats is the 10hp super class. these boats have hydraulic jacks which enable the motor to be jacked up. Two or more alleles are identical by descent IBD if they are identical copies of the same ancestral allele. This property is often used in genetic linkage to identify alleles which are potential candidates for harboring mutations causing a genetic disease. A common way to identify alleles as identical by descent is usually carried using single nucleotide polymorphism SNP data. If enough SNP in two alleles are observed as the same, then the two alleles are inferred as IBD. Although this does not guarantee that the two alleles are identical. The Descent of Mary or Genna Marias is a minor work of the New Testament apocrypha which is only known through mention in the Panarion of Epiphanius of Salamis , who gives a short passage. Epiphanius attributes the tale to the Gnostic Christianity Gnostics . The excerpt purports to be the story about the death of Zechariah priest Zechariah , the father of John the Baptist , who is supposed to have seen a vision of a man in the form of an ass while burning incense in the temple . When he emerges, he is unable to speak at first, but when he is able to relate the vision, those about him kill him. The story is consonant with other Gnostic writings and depiction of Gnostic thought in the writings of Origen , as well as with the Protoevangelium of James but there is no other testimony to this particular tale. Held in Horsemonger Lane Prison, Hunt wrote the masque to occupy himself, and it was published in 1815. The masque describes a country that is cursed by an Enchanter and begins with shepherds hearing a sound that heralds change. The Enchanter is defeated by fire coming out of clouds, and the image of Liberty and Peace, along with the Allied nations, figures representing Spring and art, and others appear to take over the land.In the final moments, a new spring comes and the prisoners are released. It is intended to represent Britain in 1814, emphasising freedom and focusing on the common people rather than the aristocracy. Many contemporary reviews from both Hunt s fellow poets and literary magazines were positive, although the British Critic described the work as a pert and vulgar insolence of a Sunday demagogue, dictating on matters of taste to town apprentices and of politics to their conceited masters . ref name r1 Background During 1814, Hunt was held in Horsemonger Lane Prison, and many of his friends would come to visit him. To occupy himself when alone, he began writing a masque in order to keep busy. The play was finished during the summer, and it was later published in 1815. The work included a preface describing the Origin and Nature of Masks . The section described how masques were started in Florence, Italy and how it was a high form of poetry. The masque tradition was stopped by Puritans during the 17th century.
