The zine was edited by the science fiction author Bruce Sterling under the alias Vincent Omniaveritas. There were several contributors such as Sue Denim as in Pseudonym pseu donym , in this case Lewis Shiner , but the real identities behind some aliases are still not commonly known. 1. Cheap talk

Cleanup date March 2008 In game theory , cheap talk is communication between players which does not directly affect the payoffs of the game. This is in contrast to signaling in which sending certain messages may be costly for the sender depending on the state of the world. The classic example is of an expert say, ecological trying to explain the state of the world to an uninformed decision maker say, politician voting on a deforestation bill . The decision maker, after hearing the report from the expert, must then make a decision which affects the payoffs of both players. Application Cheap talk can, in general, be added to any game and has the potential to enhance the set of possible equilibrium payoffs. For example, one can add a round of cheap talk in the beginning of the Battle of the sexes game theory Battle of the Sexes . Each player announces whether they intend to go to the football game, or the opera. Because the Battle of the Sexes is a coordination game , this initial round of communication may enable the players to randomize among equilibria yielding payoffs 2.5,2.5 which cannot be achieved with any pure or mixed strategy without cheap talk. The messages and strategies which yield this outcome are symmetric for each player. They are 1 announce opera or football with even probability 2 if a person announces opera or football , then upon hearing this message the other person will say opera or football as well Farrell and Matthew Rabin Rabin , 1996 . If they both announce different options, then no coordination is achieved. It is not guaranteed, however, that cheap talk ... only equilibrium is in dominant strategies. Any pre play cheap talk will be ignored and players will play ... It has been commonly argued that cheap talk will have no effect on the underlying structure of the game ... evolutionary game theory indicate that cheap talk can have effect on the evolutionary dynamics of particular ... 1. Cheap Street

Cheap Street Press was a small publishing company started up and operated by the husband wife duo, George and Jan O Nale, in their rural home near New Castle, Virginia . Cheap Street concentrated on publishing limited edition books , signed and numbered, of science fiction and fantasy works. Their books were renowned as excellent examples of the book making arts, having been hand printed letterpress by George on fine often hand made paper and hand bound in fine cloth and leather with matching drop back boxes. Their books were typically issued in editions of 50 to 200 copies, and sold for up to 250 each. They approached primarily only authors who they identified for excellence in writing quality. George and Jan O Nale were hermitic in their habits, living in a fairly unpopulated area in the Virginian countryside. They were eccentric and irascible, and were known to suddenly and arbitrarily fall into contention with individuals with which they came in contact. In 2002, the O Nales donated their collection of books and press materials to Tulane University , and then committed suicide in the spring of 2003, citing increasing health problems. 1. Cheap Imitation

Cheap Imitation is a piece for solo piano by John Cage , composed in 1969 . It is an Indeterminacy in music indeterminate piece created using the I Ching and based, rhythmically, on Socrate by Erik Satie . History of composition Like numerous other works by Cage, Cheap Imitation was a result of his collaboration with Merce Cunningham s Modern dance dance company. However, in this case the original choreography relied not on Cage s music, but on a piano arrangement of Erik Satie s symphonic drama Socrate . In 1947 Cunningham made a dance based on the first movement of Satie s work, and Cage provided a two piano transcription of the music since Cunningham s dances were usually accompanied by means of piano only . In 1968 it was decided to expand the choreography by two movements, based on the remaining two of the Satie work. ref name Pritchett 1993, 162 Pritchett 1993, 162. ref Cage, who was at the time ... s work in a piano solo. ref name Kostelanetz 2003, 83 Cage titled the result Cheap Imitation , and Cunningham ...
