    Elizabeth Monck, Duchess of Albermarle and later Elizabeth Montagu, Duchess of Montagu , was born Lady Elizabeth Cavendish 22 February 1654&ndash 11 September 1734 and known for most of her life as the Mad Duchess of Albemarle . Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of Henry Cavendish, 2nd Duke of Newcastle and his wife Frances Pierrepont, daughter of William Pierrepont. On 30 December 1669, she married Christopher Monck, 2nd Duke of Albemarle Christopher Monck later the Duke of Albemarle at Whitehall , London . Monck was appointed Governor of Jamaica in 1687 and Elizabeth went with him to Jamaica where Monck amassed a small fortune, which Elizabeth acquired and brought with her back to the Kingdom of England in 1688 when her husband died. From this time, Elizabeth had declared that she would only marry into royalty and was convinced that the Kangxi Emperor of Qing Dynasty China wished to marry her suitably dressed as the Emperor of China , her sister in law Elizabeth Seymour, Duchess of Somerset Elizabeth s stepfather, the Ralph Montagu, 1st Duke of Montagu 1st Duke of Montagu asked for her hand in marriage and they were wed on 8 September 1692 in Newcastle House , London .     One ship and one shore establishment of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Monck , after George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle . HMS Monck 1659 6 was a 52 gun third rate frigate Origins frigate launched in 1659. She was rebuilt in 1702 as a 60 gun fourth rate ship of the line , and was wrecked in 1720. HMS Monck shore establishment 6 was the Combined Training Headquarters, commissioned at Largs , Ayrshire , in 1942. By 1944 the establishment covered the Combined Operations Carrier Training, the naval barracks and the landing craft base at Port Glasgow , and the Institution of Civil Engineers ICE school at Rosneath . The establishment was paid off in 1946. HMS Monck II was the headquarters for unallocated landing craft, commissioned at Greenock in 1944 and paid off later that year.     Viscount Monck , of Ballytrammon in the County Wexford County of Wexford , is a title in the Peerage of Ireland . It was created in 1801 for Charles Monck, 1st Baron Monck. He had already been created Baron Monck , of Ballytrammon in the County of Wexford, in 1797, also in the Peerage of Ireland. His eldest son, the second Viscount, was in 1822 created Earl of Rathdowne in the Peerage of Ireland. However, this title became extinct on his death while he was succeeded in the other titles by his younger brother, the third Viscount. The latter s son, the Charles Monck, 4th Viscount Monck fourth Viscount , served as the 1st Governor General of Canada .
