The Chronicle of Melrose is a medieval chronicle from the Cotton library Cottonian Manuscript, Faustina B. ix within the British Museum . It was written by unknown authors, though evidence in the writing shows that it most likely was written by the monks at Melrose Abbey . The chronicle begins on the year 735 and ends in 1270 , consisting of two separate segments. The first part of the chronicle from the year 745 to about 1140 the year Melrose Abbey was founded , is a compilation from the Anglo Saxon Chronicle as well as other historical works written by Simeon of Durham and Hoveden . The second portion starts from 1140 until the end of the chronicle in 1270 . It contains original work and is considered by historian s to be more credible than the first segment. The chronicle is currently in the British Museum, taken away from Melrose, Scotland Melrose possibly during the Scottish Reformation Reformation period. refimprove date September 2011 Walter Melrose was a music publisher and lyricist in the 1920s and 1930s. He was born in Sumner , Illinois , and was the brother of Lester Melrose , with whom he established a music store in Chicago . ref Jelly s Blues The Life, Music, and Redemption of Jelly Roll Morton, Howard Reich and William Gaines ref This became successful after the Tivoli Theatre opened in the same street, greatly increasing the amount of passing trade. Melrose branched into music publishing when Jelly Roll Morton turned up in his store, and hits such as Wolverine Blues and King Porter Stomp became highly successful for the company. In 1926 he arranged a series of recordings for Victor Records by Morton s Red Hot Peppers , which have come to be regarded as landmarks of early jazz . He later parted company with Morton acrimoniously, and stopped paying him royalties for his compositions. Melrose added lyrics to many existing jazz compositions in order to claim a songwriting royalty, although these are rarely performed today due to their amateurish nature.
