Located at the former historic preservation site of the early 1900s wikt atelier atelier of the Russian Painting painter , Marie Vassilieff , the museum was founded by Roger Pic and Jean Marie Drot as a nonprofit operation. The museum provides visitors with a history of the multitude of artists who came from around the world to live and work in Montparnasse at the beginning of the twentieth century plus, the museum puts on temporary Art exhibition exhibition s of works by Montparnasse artists, both past and present. The painting depicts the Gare Montparnasse train station in Paris , France . It is a classic example of de Chirico s style, depicting an angular perspective on an outdoor architectural setting in the long shadows and deep colors of early evening. On the horizon is a steam train with a plume of white smoke billowing away from it. The train image appears several times in de Chirico s work.
