Leiden Classical is a distributed computing project run by the Theoretical Chemistry Department of the Leiden Institute of Chemistry at Leiden University . Leiden Classical is part of the BOINC system, and enables scientists or science students to submit their own test simulations of various molecules and atoms in a classical mechanics environment. Joining the project Participation is possible via the BOINC manager. Using this software one can create an account in the project. Then someone can make a model of a dynamic system and simulation participating run. There are several models possible, to interactions between molecules or planets. Unreferenced date August 2007 Original research article date August 2007 A classical republic , according to certain modern political theorists, is a state of Classical Antiquity that is considered to have a republic an form of government, a state where sovereignty rested with the people rather than a ruler or monarch. These include states like Sparta , Athens , and the Roman Republic . The Romans used the term res publica to describe their state, but the most common sense of that term is closer to body politic or commonwealth . The phrase was coined, it seems, to distinguish the post Lucius Tarquinius Superbus Tarquin political system with the previous monarchy, the res privata . The idea of republicanism was a creation of the Renaissance . The Renaissance scholars, most prominent among them being Niccol Machiavelli , looked back on the ancient period with great interest and reverence. They defined republic as any state that was not headed by a monarch thus including the Spartan diarchy , the Athenian democracy , and the Roman res publica . The Italians, themselves living in Republics like Florence and Venice although note that the doge was an elected monarch , looked back on these states as models of social organization. Unreferenced date December 2009 The classical limit or correspondence limit is the ability of a theoretical physics physical theory to approximate or recover classical mechanics when considered over special values of its parameters. The classical limit is used with physical theories that predict non classical behavior. A postulate called the correspondence principle was introduced to Bohr model quantum theory by Niels Bohr it states that, in effect, some kind of continuity argument should apply to the classical limit of quantum systems as the value of Planck s constant compared to the action of these systems tends to zero. More rigorously, the mathematical operation involved in classical limits is a group contraction , approximating physical systems where the relevant action is much larger than Planck s constant , so the deformation parameter S can be effectively taken to be zero. cf. Weyl quantization . Thus typically, quantum commutators equivalently, Moyal bracket s reduce to Poisson bracket s. In quantum mechanics , due to Werner Heisenberg Heisenberg s uncertainty principle , an electron can never be at rest it must always have a non zero kinetic energy , a result not found in classical mechanics. A key discovery of classical genetics in eukaryote s was genetic linkage . The observation that some gene s do not segregate independently at meiosis broke the laws of Mendelian inheritance , and provided science with a way to map characteristics to a location on the chromosome s. Linkage maps are still used today, especially in breeding for plant improvement . After the discovery of the genetic code and such tools of Clone genetics cloning as restriction enzyme s, the avenues of investigation open to geneticists were greatly broadened. In macroeconomics , the classical dichotomy refers to an idea attributed to classical economics classical and pre Keynesian economics that Real versus nominal value economics real and nominal variables can be analyzed separately. To be precise, an economy exhibits the classical dichotomy if real variables such as output and real interest rate s can be completely analyzed without considering what is happening to their nominal counterparts, the money value of output and the interest rate. In particular, this means that real GDP and other real variables can be determined without knowing the level of the nominal money supply or the rate of inflation .
