  1. Commissurotomy

A commissurotomy is a surgical incision of a commissure in the body, as one made in the heart at the edges of the commissure formed by cardiac valve s, or one made in the brain to treat certain psychiatric disorders. Patients with scleroderma , a disease that thickens and hardens the skin, sometimes require oral commissurotomy to open the corners of the mouth, the commissures, to allow dental treatment. This procedure often leaves characteristic scars. In cardiac valves Commissurotomy of cardiac valves is called valvulotomy , ref http www.thefreedictionary.com valvotomy TheFreeDictionary valvotomy Citing WordNet 3.0, Farlex clipart collection. 2003 2008 Princeton University, Farlex Inc. ref and consists of making one or more incisions at the edges of the commissure formed between two or three valves, in order to relieve constriction such as occurs in valvular stenosis , especially mitral valve stenosis . In neurosurgery In neurosurgery , a commissurotomy may be performed to sever the corpus callosum doing so has been used in cases of severe epilepsy to prevent the two hemispheres of the brain communicating, thus restraining the epilepsy to one hemisphere. Though no effect on behavior was observed after commisurotomy was performed on monkeys, it gave peculiar effects on human perception. Different functions of cognition are predominately located on one of the hemispheres. For example, Brocas area, crucial for forming sentences, is on most people situated in the left hemisphere ventral to the facial motor cortex. The left hemisphere is referred to as the talking hemisphere and the right the silent . A commisurotomy prevents any sensory input to the silent hemisphere from reaching the talking hemisphere. Since the left visual field is processed in the right hemisphere, a person with a commisurotomy is unable to describe objects to the left, because the talking hemisphere has not seen anything. It appears as though the person hadn t seen anything at all, and it doesn t ...   more details

Examples Notable examples of constrained comics The Angriest Dog in the World a comic strip by David Lynch . Each comic features the same four panels, the first three of which are identical. Dinosaur Comics which uses the same artwork, with only dialogue changing. Partially Clips which uses three identical panels based on clipart . The many works of the Oubapo group. 1. Berlin (carriage)

Image Royal Berline.JPG thumb right 275px Royal berline of Leopold II image Berline carriage Moscow history museum by shakko.jpg 275px thumb 1760s. Moscow Historical Museum A Berlin or Berline carriage was a type of covered, fast and light, four wheeled, travelling carriage with two interior seats and a separate hooded rear seat for a footman , detached from the body. It had a distinctive two perch running gear and thoroughbrace Suspension vehicle suspension , with the body hung high between the perches by shafts to leather braces. The Berlin was a more convenient method of transportation, being lighter and less likely to overturn than other carriages. A stirrup or footstool made boarding more convenient. Instead of side windows, there were hoods to let down in bad weather. The carriage was designed around 1670 by a Piedmont ese architect in the service of the Elector of Brandenburg . It took its name from Brandenburg s capital city and now the capital of Germany , Berlin , where it was first used and became fashionable in the late 17th and 18th centuries. It became popular in England in the 18th century after it was imported by a German officer. Later, the term came to be used for an enclosed automobile body having at the rear of the driver s seat a glass partition with usually one movable window.
