ABC codes contain both a short description and an expanded definition of the service, remedy and or supply item. ABC codes were created and designed by ABC Coding Solutions http www.ABCcodes.com . ABC codes fill gaps in healthcare coding and the National Health Information Network NHIN that older medical code sets do not cover by describing care provided by all healthcare practitioners. ABC codes can also be used in conjunction with two digit, alpha numeric practitioner identifiers e.g., 1A to identify the practitioner type e.g., chiropractor providing the service. Additionally, ABC codes are supported by state legislative references regarding scope of practice and training requirements on a code, state and practitioner specific basis. 1. Diagnosis codes

In healthcare , diagnostic codes are used to group and identify diseases , disorders, symptoms , human response patterns, and medical sign s, and are used to measure morbidity and death mortality . As the plural with the name of this lemma indicates, there will be never one code for all purposes, but many codes for some distinct purposes each. The codes may be quite frequently revised as new knowledge is attained. DSM see below changes some of its coding to correspond to the codes in ICD. In 2005, for example, DSM changed the diagnostic codes for circadian rhythm sleep disorders from the 307 group to the 327 group the new codes reflect the moving of these disorders from the Mental Disorders section to the Neurological section in the ICD. ref cite web url http psych.org MainMenu Research DSMIV DSMIVTR CodingUpdates NewDiagnosticCodesforSleepDisordersEffectiveOctober12005.aspx title New Diagnostic Codes for Sleep Disorders accessdate 2008 08 08 last First first Michael B. year 2005 format work publisher American Psychiatric Association doi quote ref Commonly used diagnosis coding systems See also Medical classification ICD ICD 9 CM volumes 1 and 2 only. 1. Online codes

In computer science , online codes are an example of rateless erasure codes . These codes can encode a message into a number of symbols such that knowledge of any fraction of them allows one to recover the original message with high probability . Rateless codes produce an arbitrarily large number of symbols which can be broadcast until the receivers have enough symbols. Image online codes highlevel.png frame High level view of the use of Online codes The online encoding algorithm consists of several phases. First the message is split into n fixed size message blocks. Then the outer encoding is an erasure code which produces auxiliary blocks that are appended to the message blocks to form a composite message. From this the inner encoding generates check blocks. Upon receiving a certain number of check blocks some fraction of the composite message can be recovered. Once enough has been recovered the outer decoding can be used to recover the original message. Detailed Discussion Online codes are parameterised by the block size and two scalars, q and . The authors suggest q 3 and 0.01. These parameters set the balance between the complexity and performance of the encoding. A message of n blocks can be recovered, with high probability, from 1 3 n check blocks. The probability of failure is 2 sup q 1 sup . Outer Encoding Any erasure code may be used as the outer encoding, but the author of online codes suggest the following. For each message block, pseudo randomly choose q auxiliary blocks from a total of 0.55 q n auxiliary blocks to attach it to. Each auxiliary block is then the XOR of all the message blocks which have been attached to it. Inner Encoding Image online codes time against blocks graph.png frame A graph of check blocks received against number of message blocks fixed for a 10000 block message The inner encoding takes the composite message and generates ... 1. Gold Codes

About authentification codes used to command a launch of nuclear weapons the binary codes used in telecommunications and GPS Gold code Unreferenced date November 2007 The Gold Codes are the nuclear launch codes that are purportedly provided to the President of the United States of America in his role as Commander in Chief . Prepared by the National Security Agency , the code sequence is printed on a plastic card, nicknamed the biscuit , which is similar to a credit card, that the President carries on his person. The concept behind the codes is that they permit the President to positively identify himself as the commander in chief and thereby authenticate a launch order to the National Military Command Center . Should a launch situation arise, the codes would be transmitted to the NMCC. The communication must occur via a special secure channel. Even then, the two man rule applies. The National Command Authority comprising the President and Secretary of Defense must jointly issue the order to use nuclear weapons to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The order would then be transmitted over a tan yellow phone, the Joint Chiefs of Staff Alerting Network, otherwise known as the Gold Phone , that directly links the NMCC with United States Strategic Command Headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. In the event the President decides to order a nuclear strike, he would then have to transmit not only the codes but also the Attack Options which are the specific orders for attacks on specific targets. The Attack Options are contained in the Single Integrated Operation Plan and include Major Attack Options MAOs , Selected Attack Options SAOs , and Limited Attack Options LAOs . The SIOP, which is a thick binder, is one of the documents contained in the President s Emergency Satchel Nuclear Football . Others include plans for continuity of government, and letters the president signs delegating authority to the Vice President should that need to happen. The satchel ...   more details

  1. Nomenclature codes

Refimprove date February 2010 Nomenclature codes or codes of nomenclature are the various rulebooks that govern biological Taxonomy taxonomic nomenclature , each in their own broad field of organisms. To an end user who only deals with names of species, with some awareness that species are assignable to families, it may not be noticeable that there is more than one code, but beyond this basic level these are rather different in the way they work. The successful introduction of two part names for species by Carolus Linnaeus Linnaeus was the start for an ever expanding system of nomenclature. With all naturalists worldwide adopting this approach to thinking up names there arose several schools of thought about the details. It became ever more apparent that a detailed body of rules was necessary to govern scientific names. From the mid nineteenth century onwards there were several initiatives to arrive at worldwide accepted sets of rules. In the course of time these became the present nomenclature codes governing the naming of Animal s &ndash International Code of Zoological Nomenclature ICZN Plant s including Fungus fungi and cyanobacteria International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants ICN , replacing the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature ICBN taking effect ... 1. Shaping codes

refimprove date October 2006 In digital communications shaping codes are a method of encoding that changes the distribution of signals to improve efficiency. Description Typical digital communication systems uses M Quadrature Amplitude Modulation QAM to communicate through an analog channel specifically a Channel communications channel with Gaussian noise . For Higher bit rates M the minimum Signal to Noise ratio SNR required by a QAM system with Error detection and correction Error correcting code Error Correcting Codes is about 1.53 Decibel dB higher than minimum SNR required by a Gaussian source 30 more transmitter power as given in Shannon Hartley theorem math C B log 2 left 1 frac S N right math where C is the channel capacity in bits per second B is the Bandwidth signal processing bandwidth of the channel in hertz S is the total signal power over the bandwidth and N is the total noise power over the bandwidth. S N is the signal to noise ratio of the communication signal to the Gaussian noise interference expressed as a straight power ratio not as decibels . This 1.53 dB difference is called the shaping gap . Typically digital system will encode bits with uniform probability to maximize the Entropy information theory entropy . Shaping code act as buffer between digital sources and modulator communication system. They will receive uniformly distributed data and convert it to Gaussian like distribution before presenting to the modulator. Shaping codes are helpful in reducing transmit power and thus reduce the cost of Power amplifier and the interference caused to other users in the vicinity. Application Some of the methods used for shaping are described in the trellis shaping paper by Dr. Dave Forney G. D.
