  1. Coincident

Coincident is a geometry geometric term that pertains to the relationship between two Vector geometric vectors . Vectors consist of a magnitude and a direction . Vectors can be said to be coincident when their direction is the same though the magnitude may be different that is to say, they lie one on top of the other. If two coincident vectors were to be normalized shortened or lengthened to be one unit long , the resulting vectors would be identical. The dot product of two coincident vectors is the product of their magnitudes. The cross product of two coincident vectors is a vector of all zeros. 1. Off-axis optical system

An off axis optical system is an optics optical system in which the optical axis of the aperture is not coincident with the mechanical center of the aperture. An optical system in which the optical axis of the aperture is not coincident with the mechanical center of the aperture. Note The principal applications of off axis optical systems are to avoid obstruction of the primary aperture by secondary optical elements, instrument packages, or sensors, and to provide ready access to instrument packages or sensors at the focus. The engineering tradeoff of an off axis optical system is an increase in image aberrations. References FS1037C Category Geometrical optics optics stub ...   more details

The set up is as follows a Rod geometry rod passes through a sleeve, in which it can smoothly slide. The sleeve is tangentially affixed to a wall at its lengthwise center, forming a pivot. One end of the rod is moved in a circle, whose centre is not coincident with the pivot, and whose plane is parallel to the wall. The question of the thought experiment is what shape does the other end of the rod describe? The seemingly obvious answer is a circle , but in fact it describes an Inverse curve invert ed cardioid . For a system composed of simple lens optics lenses and mirror s, the axis passes through the center of curvature of each surface, and coincides with the axis of rotational symmetry . Orphan date February 2009 Hell Mary Hill probably a corruption of Hail Mary Hill , is a forested hill, tolerably high , near Sheffield , England . According to legend, near its top is a cave reputedly containing a chest of money. In The Mirror of Literature, Amusement, and Instruction , v. 10, n. 285, December 1, 1827, the legend is described thus a great iron chest, so full, that when the sun shines bright upon it, the gold can be seen through the key hole but it has never yet been stolen, because in the first place, a huge black cat and wherever a black cat is there is mischief, you may be sure guards the treasure, which bristles up, and, fixing a gashful gaze on the would be marauder, with fiery eyes, seems ready to devour him if he approach within a dozen yards of the cave and, secondly, whenever this creature is off guard, and it has occasionally been seen in a neighbouring village, and the treasure has been attempted to be withdrawn from its tomb, no mortal rope has been able to sustain its weight, each that has been tried invariably breaking when the coffer was at the very mouth of the cave which, being endowed with the gift of locomotion, has immediately retrograded into its pristine situation This tradition is curiously coincident with the German folklore German superstition of treasure buried within the Hartz mountains , guarded, and ever disappointing the cupidity of those who would discover and possess themselves of it. 1. Moral particularism

Moral particularism is the view that there are no moral principle s and that moral judgement can be found only as one decides particular cases, either real or imagined. This stands in stark contrast to other prominent moral theories, such as deontology or utilitarianism . In the former, it is asserted that people have a set of duties that are to be considered or respected in the latter, people are to respect the happiness or the preferences of others in their actions. Particularism, to the contrary, asserts that there are no overriding principles that are applicable in every case, or that can be abstracted to apply to every case. According to particularism, most notably defended by Jonathan Dancy , moral knowledge should be understood as knowledge of moral rule of thumb rules of thumb , which are not principles, and of particular solutions, which can be used by analogy in new cases. The term particularism was coined to designate this position by R. M. Hare , in 1963 Freedom and Reason , Oxford Clarendon, p. 18 . A largely coincident view about law was defended by Ant nio Castanheira Neves Castanheira Neves in his 1967 major work. 1. Maritime Continent

Maritime Continent is the name given primarily by meteorologist s to the region of Southeast Asia which comprises many islands, peninsulas and shallow seas. The region is significant in meteorology because it is considered the most important energy source region in the entire global circulation system owing to a number of coincident factors, the most significant being geographic location and topography, both of which contribute to the development of the warmest large area of ocean on Earth, the Tropical Warm Pool . The name combines the terms maritime climate maritime and continental climate continent normally used as opposites in the description of climate . Maritime air is humid, and continental air is dry. In the Southeast Asia region, land mass es and bodies of water are, roughly speaking, evenly distributed. Moreover, the land masses are characterized by high mountains, and the seas are among the warmest on the earth. This produces a widespread area of diurnal thunderstorm s which pump huge quantities of moisture and heat high up into the atmosphere which in turn feeds the upper level winds which circle the globe.
