The MilitaryTraining Act 1939 was an Act of Parliament passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom on 26 May 1939, in preparation for World War II , and applied to males aged 20 and 21 years old. They were to be called up for six months full time militarytraining, and then transferred to the Reserve. There was provision for conscientious objector s. It was the UK s first act of peacetime conscription and was intended to be temporary in nature, continuing for three years unless an Order in Council sooner declared it was no longer necessary. On 27 April 1939, Leslie Hore Belisha , Secretary of State for War , persuaded the cabinet of Neville Chamberlain to introduce a limited form of conscription, as a result of the deteriorating international situation and the rise of Nazi Germany. Men called up, were to be known as militiamen to distinguish them from the regular army. To emphasise this distinction, each man was issued with a suit clothing suit in addition to a uniform. The intention was for the first intake to undergo six months of basic training before being discharged into an active reserve. They would then be recalled for short training periods and attend an annual camp. There was one registration under the Act, of the first cohort of liable males, on Saturday 3 June 1939, and call up for these men followed. However, the Act was superseded on the outbreak of war in September 1939 by the National Service Armed Forces Act 1939 . This is NewZealand is a documentary film showcasing NewZealand scenery that was produced by the NewZealand National Film Unit for screening at the Expo 70 World Expo in Osaka in 1970. The film combined scenic images including aerial cinematography with rousing classical music such as Sibelius Karelia Suite . Using then ground breaking technology, the film required three separate but synchronised 35mm film projectors which projected their images onto an extra wide screen. In 2004 2005 Archives NewZealand commissioned a restoration at post production facility, Park Road Post . Hugh McDonald, the original director, was involved in the restoration and Kit Rollings, the original sound mixer assisted with the updated soundtrack. POV date June 2008 update date November 2010 The Coalition Military Assistance Training Team CMATT was a section of the Multi National Security Transition Command Iraq MNSTC I that was responsible for organizing, training and equipping of the New Iraqi Army Iraqi Army . CMATT had plans to stand up nine infantry brigades in three divisions, a coastal defense force, and lay the framework of an aviation arm of the military. Among CMATT s goals were developing a force that was under political control, accountable to the nation, and defensive in capability Additionally, CMATT advisors developed and stood up a number of military school houses dedicated to Infantry, logistics, administration, medical services, signal, and military police. Dissolution It has now since been dissolved and has passed on the responsibility of training the Iraqi Security Forces to the Multi National Security Transition Command Iraq. This is due to their strategy of developing US style mechanized divisions to defend the country from invasion from its surrounding neighbors invaders rather than developing the necessary security forces to protect the Iraqi population from criminals and insurgents. http reform.house.gov UploadedFiles Sepp 20Testimony.pdf External articles John Pike, http www.globalsecurity.org military world iraq iraq corps.htm Iraqi Military Reconstruction .
